Property code: OC-BN070

Enjoying panoramic views out across the Wye Valley hilltops, this fantastic cottage is a pet-friendly rural retreat to escape to for days filled with endless dog walks and canine-compatible socialisation. Accommodating six guests and two dogs, this traditionally appointed cottage offers a top dog choice for any group of family or friends hoping to get to know Mid Wales and the famed Brecon Beacons National Park. Just a short walk away, Hay-on-Wye (4 miles) is a charming local town and a fantastic location from which to start any daily adventure. With dog-tired bodies and exhausted paws, drop back into the town at the end of your walk to get some refreshment in a local, pet-friendly pub.

This 18th-century cottage has been sympathetically renovated whilst maintaining its traditional charm, complete with low beams exposed brickwork and angled ceilings throughout three first-floor bedrooms. Let your doggo bound inside and find the cosiest spot in the lounge, perhaps by the warmth of the wood burner that’s tucked away in the corner. A second lounge, also equipped with a wood burner, provides extra space for all to unwind, a sofa-bed for additional sleepers and a dining table to sit at together. Outside, the very best views can be admired from the elevated garden. This spot is unenclosed, so be sure to keep an eye on any escape-prone pets.

Amongst many incredible walking routes that pass through this rural area, the Offa’s Dyke Path is a tail-wagging choice that passes through local Hay-on-Wye. For a rewarding excursion, pack plenty of dog treats and make your way through the Black Mountains along this nature-packed route, letting Fido sniff out every animal and critter as you pass Llanthony (15 miles) and make your way towards Monmouth (28 miles).

  • 3 bedrooms: 1 twin room, 1 twin room with 2ft 6 beds that can be pushed together, 1 double, plus a sofa bed in the lounge which can also be used to accommodate extra guests. Please note all bedrooms are accessed via the twin bedroom
  • 1 bathroom with shower over the bath
  • Electric oven with ceramic hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and washing machine (found in the cupboard off the kitchen)
  • 2 wood burners with logs included
  • Digital TV, DVD player
  • Wi-Fi included
  • Garden with picnic tables and benches
  • 2 dogs welcome. Please keep them under control, as there are sheep in the surrounding fields
  • Shops, restaurants and pubs, 4 miles
  • Please note: there are low beams on t he first floor level - please mind your head!
  • Please note: there is a ‘ha-ha wall’ which is a flat lawn with a 6ft drop on one side which should be considered if bringing a young child.
  • Find plenty of parking at the property but access is via the shared track which is a steep and fairly rough stone farm track, some drivers might prefer to park in the lower off-road parking area and walk up. Probably not suitable for low-slung cars
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas

The cottage is just as described - we had all we needed for the week and we were comfortable and warm - a minor issue we had with toaster was quickly remedied by the owner who was very helpful and friendly. The views from the cottage and the garden are just breath taking - we saw several Kites hovering for prey and had visits over the fence from thRead moree horses in the next field - the pub in Dorstone is about 3 miles away and very friendly with good food - we all enjoyed our stay very much Hide
