Just a few paw steps from Appledore’s bustling quayside, this cosy two-bedroom cottage is a fantastic base for a family holiday by the coast. Welcoming up to four humans and two canine pals, it’s within strolling distance of dog-friendly shops and pubs, and your intrepid sea dogs can join you on a boat trip to explore the sparkling North Devon coastline. Upon your return, sit out on the raised balcony with a glass of wine or iced tea to enjoy the best of the evening sunshine.

Exposed ceiling beams and a striking stone fireplace showcase the cottage’s original features, while contemporary furnishings bring it bang up to date. The lounge is a cosy spot to watch the Smart TV or play your favourite tunes through the Bose Bluetooth speaker. On chilly nights, it’s unlikely your pups will pass up the opportunity to warm their fur beside the roaring wood burner. A cottage-style staircase leads up to the two bedrooms – a double with washbasin and a bunk bedroom that will appeal to the younger members of the family. This room has steps up to a large window, which opens on to a small decked balcony with seating.

Lead the way on a 2-mile walk around the coast to Northam Burrows Country Park and onwards to the long, sweeping beach at Westward Ho!, part of which is open to dogs all year round. In the summer months, a trip aboard the dog-friendly ferry from Appledore to Instow is a must, as is lunch in a pub overlooking the estuary. Keep the kids entertained with a thrilling day out at the Milky Way Adventure Park (11.5 miles), where dogs are welcome in many areas.

We had a lovely stay at this cottage. Tucked away down a quiet lane with very little passing traffic, it was peaceful and relaxing. The location is perfect for exploring Appledore and enjoying scenic walks across Northam Burrows. The cottage is well-equipped with everything needed for a comfortable stay, and there are excellent fish and chip shops Read moreand dog-friendly pubs nearby. We would definitely return and would highly recommend it to others. Hide

Lovely quiet, warm cosy cottage perfect for a winter break. Lots of restaurants, pubs and shops nearby with lovely walks. Stairs, as advised are a challenging but would not put us off booking again!

Small but well thought out and comfortable traditional maritime cottage in a great location. Not ideal for anyone with mobility issues as the small staircase is very steep. Host left a couple of welcoming touches that are much appreciated and not considered in a lot of other locations weve been to. I would happily return!

A lovely cosy cottage in a great central location. Nice and quiet, we were lucky that we could make use of the balcony during our stay. The stairs could be an issue for those with mobility issues especially as the bathroom is on the ground floor. We really enjoyed our time here.

Fab location, comfortable and cosy. Bottle of bubbly was a very nice touch. The place could do with a little tlc. It could have been cleaner and some cleaning supplies would have been helpful. While the biscuits and freeze-dried coffee were a nice thought, the biscuits were a year out of date and the coffee had been there so long it was solid as a Read morerock . Would I stay here again? Sure, but I'd bring my own anti-bac wipes and coffee! Hide

Overall the cottage is comfortable and in a quiet area with no 'footfall' noise and we enjoyed our stay. Stairs are a problem for anyone with any mobility issues and bathroom access is difficult (or maybe impossible) if you are on the larger side due to door restricted by a towel rail - although the bathroom itself is very nice. Lacked silly thingsRead more like kitchen cloth & dustpan/brush for spillages and only one log supplied so using the log burner on chilly evenings was not possible. Hide

It's a very sweet little cottage, but not for those who aren't nimble (the stairs are a bit narrow in places). It's nicely decorated and all the amenities are there but it's cramped for families and cold in the winter. It was, however, wonderfully peaceful and quiet and in a perfect place for the centre of Appledore.

Small cottage, in lovely position in Appledore. Comfy bed and adequate facilities. Steep narrow stairway not ideal for older people though. Also no outside light so very dark entering or leaving at night.

Cottage on the whole was comfortable and enjoyable to stay in. An area of mould looked to be appealing in corner of wet room and floor properly needs attention to enhance drainage after shower
