It’s 3 miles from the coastal town of Aberdovey, where you’ll find plenty of dog-friendly pubs, cafés and restaurants along with an unspoilt sandy beach that’s excellent for crabbing, sandcastle building, sailing and canoeing. While there are some dog restrictions in summer, large sections of this sandy expanse are pet-friendly all year round. The lodge, located on ancient woodland that was once the Welsh Celtic Rainforest, offers a serene retreat for up to seven human guests and three dogs.
Enter via the porch to find a spacious hallway equipped with useful storage and a downstairs wet room, then step through to the kitchen to prepare a mug of something warm and soothing. Simply presented in a country cottage style, the kitchen has an electric oven and hob, fridge/freezer, dishwasher and a microwave for cooking up a storm and clearing away afterwards. There’s also a dining table in the kitchen, perfect for casual breakfasts whilst reading the papers. Next, the lounge/diner has full-length wooden-framed doors, comfortable furniture and a Smart TV with Netflix, plus a large dining table with ample seating for your party. Grab a bowl of buttery popcorn and watch your favourite films or challenge the family to an evening of board games at the table, warmed by the crackling wood burner. There is a single bedroom on the ground floor suitable for disabled access with a wet room close by. You’ll next find the stairs to the rear that lead up to the bedrooms and bathroom. There is a stairlift to the first floor, the key for this is available from the owner upon request. The large bathroom has beamed ceilings, a roll-top bath, a separate shower with shower seat, grip handles, and a WC, and the king-size bedroom has the added bonus of an en-suite shower room with disabled seat and WC. Completing this level is a super-king-size bedroom, pretty twin room and a single room all equipped with handy storage and bedroom furniture.
From your front door, there’s a lovely trail leading to Llyn Barfog (the Bearded Lake), accessible without needing the car. At Aberdovey, you can join the Wales Coast Path for doggie-pleasing walks through gorgeous scenery – keep your eyes out for the bottlenose dolphins that swim in these waters. The accommodation is also 7.5 miles from the vibrant market town of Machynlleth, where you can absorb the friendly atmosphere and visit the Centre for Alternative Technology (9.5 miles), which has a water-balanced railway you can ride on. History enthusiasts will appreciate a trip to Corris (8 miles), a town rich in mining heritage, featuring old workings and a popular craft centre.
