This quirky and colourful cottage that dates back to the 1800s is set in the small village of Buxworth, with a canal, the Peak District National Park, and plenty of traditional country pubs on its doorstep. Up to three guests and two canine companions can spend cosy evenings in front of the flame-effect fire, enjoy al fresco meals on the raised decking, and experience day trips filled with nature hikes and picnics.

Make yourself at home in the cosy open-plan lounge/diner with a wooden beamed ceiling and nature-themed decor. Surrounding the flame-effect electric fire are two sofas and a rug for your four-pawed friends to curl up on. Natural light and elegant low-hanging lights keep the dining table bright for special meals with your loved ones. Continue into the kitchen to find a sleek ‘U’-shaped fitted unit with marble-effect surface tops. From here, doors lead out to a conservatory utility room through the courtyard and up to the decked garden. Upstairs, is a family bathroom and two bedrooms – a double and a single. The property didn't quite live up to expectations, given the on-line reviews and my good earlier contact with the owner. The location, a short stroll to the Bugsworth Basin canal area (with its industrial revolution history) and with the High Peaks just there, was great, although there is the sound of the nearby A6 to be heard. To me, a few adjusRead moretments would make a notable difference to the pleasurable experience the cottage delivers to its visitors. There were areas where cleanliness was lacking, including in the kitchen, which itself was great and extremely well equipped. I didn't find the bed especially comfortable, nor the pillows. The overall decor seemed a tad tired and a refresh would lift the place. Providing clarity over which bins to use and for what would be useful. Hide

Cosy cottage with everything you could possibly need for your stay. Lovely welcome treats on arrival too. Comfortable bed, lovely shower and generally very well equipped. Great location just up from the Bugsworth canal basin and good walks from the front door.

Lovely cosy cottage. Bed comfy. Shower hot. Walks from the door and beyond. Very well equipped - in fact one of the best we've been in (and we've done LOTS of cottage holidays). Tiered garden, which may not be suitable for children or people with mobility probs, it is very quirky though. Neighbours very nice.

Everything you could need was provided for in this comfortable cottage, with off street parking and an outdoor seated area. The location between Whaley Bridge and Chinley was very convenient, both within walking distance along the canal tow path or the Peak Forest tramway. Also close to train station.

Beautiful cottage with well appointed kitchen, the cottage was very clean, comfortable and warm. It was in a perfect situation for walking, we managed 5 long distance walks from the cottage, 3 circular walks & 2 linear walks( using the trains for returning) so were able to leave the car behind. Perfect! We will definitely return.
