  • The perfect base from which to explore the Peak District and Pennine Way
Property code: OC-85392

Offering charm at every turn, this quaint cottage boasts an enviable riverside location in the heart of the lovely village of Holmfirth. Sleeping two people in one bedroom and welcoming one canine companion, it’s the ideal romantic bolthole for couples who want to escape the daily grind and explore the Yorkshire countryside with their pup in tow. You’ll fall in love with the property’s original beams, flagstone floors and exposed stone walls, while your pup will adore walkies along the Pennine Way, which is right on the doorstep.

Step inside and take a moment to relax in the cottage’s welcoming living room/diner. When you’re ready, step through the quirky low and narrow doorway that leads to a compact kitchen. Cook up a romantic meal for two and enjoy an intimate dinner in the dining area. After dinner, make your way to the small patio area to the front of the cottage and enjoy a glass of something cool and crisp as you listen to the sound of the river bubbling by. Then, head to the living area to watch a movie as your pup stretches out in front of the wood burner-effect electric fire that sits in the cottage’s original fireplace. At the end of the day, you’ll find a bright and spacious bedroom upstairs.

Take a stroll on the Pennine Way up to Black Hill (6 miles) – the highest hill in West Yorkshire. The views over the Holme Valley are gorgeous. Culture vultures will love taking the pup for walkies at the Yorkshire Sculpture Park (13 miles), where there are 100 sculptures to discover in the open air. Further afield, treat your pup to an underground hike through the ancient cavern system at Treak Cliff Cavern (28.5 miles).

Totally spotless. All the equipment we needed (and more). Perfect location. Table and chairs outside to eat, drink and listen to the river. Very quiet little cul-de-sac. Two minutes to the town centre and three to the bus station. Despite the weather we had a perfect week, thank you so much.

We loved our stay at Waterside Cottage. It's beautifully decorated and furnished, and had everything we needed. Plenty of parking close by (not all free, but reasonable rates), and great location by the river with easy access to everything in Holmfirth. Great communication with very helpful and welcoming hosts. Hoping to return soon!

I had an excellent stay at Waterside Cottage. It is very nicely located close enough to the center of Holmfirth and also to The Wrinkled Stocking Tearoom which serves excellent breakfasts. I was very warm and comfortable and can thoroughly recommend it.
