At a glance

  • Secluded and peaceful location with use of a shepherds hut in the surrounding orchard, there is an abundance of charm and character with an open fire and wood burner
  • Perfect base for walking and cycling with scenic routes through the Dorset Downs
  • Ideally placed for touring Dorset and Somerset, visit the beautiful beaches at Lyme Regis and Charmouth or spend an afternoon exploring historic Sherborne Abbey
Property code: OC-50290

Set beneath the picturesque Dorset Downs down a quiet lane, this charming country cottage is an excellent base for families or groups and up to two of their canine companions. Keen walkers, cyclists, and their stick-loving friends will love exploring the many scenic routes that run directly from the property, so make sure you pack your walking boots!

After a day of exploring, rest your aching feet and paws beside the open fire in the cosy lounge, cup of tea (or perhaps glass of wine) in-hand. Spend the evening enjoying a relaxed family meal in the open-plan kitchen/diner, as you make plans for the following day beside the warming wood burner. Cottage style stairs lead to three cosy bedrooms, while outside in the shepherd’s hut you will find another double bed and a wood burner - an ideal spot to curl up when the cool evening air draws in. On warm evenings, enjoy the large enclosed lawn that wraps around the cottage, and relax in the garden furniture as you watch the sun set.

Both Dorset and Somerset are easily explored from here, so you will never run out of places to visit and things to do. Enjoy a beach day at West Bay (21 miles) or Lyme Regis (30 miles) and breathe in a dose of fresh sea air, or browse the weekly market at nearby Sherborne (8.5 miles). Bridport (19 miles) and Yeovil (13 miles) are also close by, but why not head 5 miles south to the National Trust’s famous Cerne Giant - the ancient naked figure sculpted into the chalk hillside above Cerne Abbas.

We loved the location under the Dorset Downs. There were kites and hawks plus a family of martens in the porch. We were a party of 5 plus junior age girl and baby. Downstairs was excellent with comfortable seating, front room very comfortable and a spacious bathroom/loo. The big kitchen and facilities were great, just a bit more cutlery would benefRead moreit. Upstairs suggest some rugs over the rather bare boards. For us the big garden was a massive help with a young relation and two dogs and really decided us on this place. Hide

Beautiful cottage in such a secluded area i absolutely loved it. The dark skies to see the stars was incredible. Just what was needed to get away for some absolute peace. The cottage was well equipped, clean and well maintained. I will definitely be booking to come back.

This place is a little gem. The peace and quiet and feel of living in the country. The cottage was fully equipped, including baby and toddler equipment. Ideal for dog owners. A big thank you to Tilly for looking after our ancient motorbike. You might want to take a hairdryer. Hope to visit the area again as theres loads to see on the doorstep

A really lovely little cottage in a beautiful, very quiet location. We used to visit every year with the children. So great to be back after an 8 year break and find it just as lovely as before

Very peaceful, quiet and dark area. Shame it rained in the evenings as didnt get to use the hammock. Nice and warm cottage , very old charm cottage with creaks and groans, some low door ways so at 62 had to remember to duck, forgot few times -ouch. Would recommend to others.

This was a lovely stay. Set in a rural location it was extremely peaceful with no traffic at all going past. It had an enclosed garden that was perfect for our dogs. I would highly recommended and would be happy to stay there again.
