Throw a ball in the sunshine for Rover and watch him bound across the lawn at this single-storey, stone cottage at Lintz Green in County Durham. Situated 5 miles from Consett and 6.5 miles from the fringes of the North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the two-bedroom, Grade II-listed retreat, which sleeps four guests, is perfect for a small, dog-loving family or two couples wishing to stay with a happy hound.

Wander inside to find a light-filled dining room, with a glass roof and valley views, connected, by a step up, to an open-plan lounge/kitchen. Let your furry friend patter about while you start preparing supper. Dish up Rover’s dinner over here too, serve everyone else their meal up at the breakfast bar, then settle down to a good film on the Smart TV, while your contented canine enjoys a quiet doggy doze. Also in this part of the cottage are a utility space, with a safe, and a WC. As day turns to night, head off to one of the bedrooms, either a super-king-size, with an en-suite shower room, or a twin, with an en-suite bathroom. Take Rover out into the enclosed garden on warm days to race up and down the grass while you dine outside or simply relax and enjoy the scenery. There is parking for two cars at the cottage and secure storage for cycles.

Pull on your walking boots, pick up the dog lead and step straight out from the cottage to follow the 12-mile Derwent Walk. This runs between Consett and Swalwell and tracks the route of an old railway line. At the northern end of the trail, 6.5 miles from the cottage, is scenic Derwenthaugh Country Park, which is great for dog walking and is home to the impressive Nine Arches Viaduct.

  • 2 bedrooms - 1 super-king-size, 1 twin
  • 2 bathrooms - 1 en-suite shower room with WC, 1 en-suite bathroom with bath, separate walk-in shower and WC, plus an additional WC
  • Bathrobes available for use during your stay
  • Induction hob, electric oven, fridge/freezer, dishwasher, microwave, Dolce Gusto coffee machine, (pods provided), and washing machine
  • Travel cot, highchair, and stair gate available
  • Smart TV and Firestick, safe
  • Enclosed garden with sun loungers and garden furniture
  • Private, off-road parking for 2 cars
  • Bike storage
  • Pub, restaurants and shop 1 mile
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00
  • 2 dogs allowed. Additional charges may apply

The Stables is an absolutely wonderful cottage. Its spotlessly clean, beautifully decorated and well furnished with comfy beds and a well equipped kitchen. The location is lovely with great views from the garden and good walks from the doorstep. The dining area with the glass roof is such a lovely sunny spot to sit in. Thank you for our stay.

Lovely holiday cottage, great facilities, any issues we had were addressed by the owners at the time, who were really helpful. Good location. Lovely walks right outside the door. Beware if you have a reactive dog as the cottage is directly on the bridal path and stables are nearby.

The property was very light, airy and clean and the adjacent enclosed garden and lane made it easy for exercising the dog. Plenty of walks in the area both close at hand (railway walk, Derwent walk country park, Chopwell woods) and further afield (Druridge bay, Blanchland, Hadrian's Wall, Allen Bank). We had a lovely week in this comfortable cottage. All furniture and fittings are good quality. It is situated down a track which can be surprisingly busy. This track leads to the disused Derwent Valley railway which is a fantastic walking path, great for dogs and cyclists to enjoy. There are some good dog friendly pubs serving food in the area too
