Shandwick Bay Beach is 3 miles away with its golden sands, dunes and coastal tracks for striking out with your four-legged pal. Check out the bronze ‘Mermaid of the North’ statue at Balintore (2 miles), which is dedicated to folklore from this peninsula. Tain (4 miles) is a famous old market town, not least as it houses the renowned Glenmorangie whisky distillery. Head the 20 miles to Alness, where you can walk up the Fyrish Monument and drink in the breathtaking views across Cromarty Firth and Ben Wyvis.
