"You could all have fun here imagining you are the custodians of the manor, whilst staying in the West Wing. A holiday in this beautiful building will bring out the inner Downton Abbey in everyone. The setting is impressive, as is the interior. You can explore the countryside trails across the Somerset Levels and, upon your return, dust off your dog’s paws and take afternoon tea in the private courtyard. Parking is shared in the working stable yard so you can compare the beauty of equine with that of the canine.

Big rooms with small doorways and an abundance of original beams are peppered about the house, so, if you are the Great Dane of the family you may need to mind your head. Gorgeous traditional fittings with classic country furniture and stunning paintings adorn the three-storey wing of this 16th-century manor. A large farmhouse kitchen, with a range-style cooker, embraces family gatherings with room for the dog to stretch out, too. After dinner, move into the lounge and curl up on the comfy sofas to watch a favourite TV show or just enjoy the company. Perhaps it’s time to spoil your four-legged friend with a treat and well-deserved ear rub, too.

Langport is just over 2 miles away from the manor, on the banks of the River Parrett, and boasts being one of the smallest towns in England. Muchelney Abbey is 2 miles south of Langport, a 16th-century abbots’ house which history lovers will lap up, and there is space for dogs and children to play in the grounds. Maybe retail therapy is your thing; sneak off to Clarks Village, just 13 miles away – no one will notice except perhaps the dog, but surely he won’t bark about it." (blank) 1

Midelney Manor, the west wing is a lovely place to stay and relax. It is a stunning period property brimming with bags of character and charm! The Kitchen was very well equipped, lounge and bedrooms are all large and very comfortable. Particularly the beds, our whole family slept very well. Alice and her family are perfect host ensuring we felt wRead moreelcome. She was also very helpful and on hand if required. Plenty of local information was supplied. Giving us a perfect base for exploring the local area whilst being close to our relatives, who we were visiting. We were blessed with glorious weather for the start of April, which helped our enjoyment exploring this beautiful rural area. We stopped off at The Drayton crown pub on our way back to the property a few times and its definitely worth a visit. We really liked the village of Langport. We took the car a few times (10 minute drive) but also walked in which took about an hour and a half along the river, which our dog particularly loved. All in all a fantastic and enjoyable stay. The venue is part of a larger Tudor mansion located down a long country lane. The host was very welcoming and gave a nice welcoming pack of food. Kitchen and lounge were lovely. Bathrooms need some upgrading. Two steep staircases to negotiate but beds very comfortable. Downstairs loo useful but no loo on top floor.
