This traditional cottage in the heart of Yorkshire sleeps four guests and one four-legged pal. Situated in a pretty village, with ample walking from your doorstep and two pet-friendly pubs, it’s the perfect place to escape with your furry friend. Spend a relaxing afternoon in nearby Helmsley (17 miles away), with its magical walled garden and impressive castle, or head to the coast for seaside charm in Whitby (28 miles away).

The cosy property has a home-away-from-home vibe, with pretty furnishings and a roaring wood burner for those chillier evenings. A step up leads to the country cottage-style kitchen, where you’ll find a dining table to enjoy mealtimes together and space for a dog bed. There’s also a handy utility room and boot room for all your dog-walking gear. However, it’s the enclosed garden that is the real feature of the cottage. With beautiful established borders, a wildlife pond and secret spots to explore, the pup will love having a good sniff about. There’s a fabulous summer house where you can retreat with a book and outdoor furniture for al fresco dining.

It’s easy to spend a few hours pottering around the gorgeous market town of Helmsley. Many of the independent shops and cafes welcome canine companions and they can join you as you explore the walled garden. In this haven of peace and tranquillity, beneath the ruins of the castle, you can fully escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Wrap up the trip with a stroll around the grounds of the impressive medieval fortress. For something a bit different, head to Pickering Station (7.5 miles away). Marvel at the 1930s-themed station, before hopping on one of the steam trains to Whitby. Here you can amble around the narrow streets and grab fresh fish and chips on the harbour.

Perfect holiday from start to finish. Kevin the owner is really lovely. Everyone in the village was so welcoming, especially at The Royal Oak where the food and staff are amazing. Beautiful location with lots to explore. Will certainly be staying here again in the summer to see the beautiful garden in all its glory.

The cottage is on a very busy main road. People drive fast throughout the day and the noise can be heard everywhere in the house.
