Perfect for couples or small families (there’s a sofa bed in the lounge), here you can enjoy everything that Dorset and Somerset have to offer, from the stunning Jurassic Coastline to the open countryside and its many footpaths and trails.

Steps lead you to the front door of the thatched cottage, which has been decorated in soft, muted tones and which has inviting soft furnishings to give a true homely feel. After a day exploring, retreat to the cosy lounge and unwind on the sofa in front of the TV or perhaps sit on the window seat and while away the day with a good book. An archway leads to the bright and airy contemporary kitchen/diner, while a winding cottage-style staircase leads to the comfortable double bedroom. Breathe in the fresh country air in the enclosed courtyard garden, which has a small lawn area where Fido and friends will love to play.

An abundance of pretty towns and villages are within easy reach, including Sherborne (4.5 miles) with its artisan cafes and popular restaurants, and Yeovil (5.5 miles) with its National Trust house and country parks. The cottage is virtually surrounded by Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty, with Cranborne Chase, Blackdown Hills, East Devon and Dorset all close by, offering picture-perfect settings and even more wonderful walking routes to discover. Pack the car for a beach day with your pups and head to famous West Bay (25 miles) or Abbotsbury (22 miles). Lyme Regis, known for its fossil finds, is further afield—34 miles from the cottage.

My first holiday for many years (about 30) and I picked the best one. Snowdrop Cottage in Thornford, Dorset, is splendid. When I arrived I just stood over the road to take it in. A beautiful thatched cottage, in a lovely, friendly village, my 4 dogs loved it. There are walks from the cottage. I honestly felt I was dreaming being at the cottageRead more. The bedroom was beautiful as was the whole cottage. The owner is smashing as well and has dogs. If you have dogs this is a must. I shall be returning when I can. Thank you very much for letting me stay there, it was just the tonic I needed. Hide

Snowdrop cottage is a perfect location with great walks and places to visit nearby. Stairgates meant we could section off areas which was helpful and the garden is fully enclosed even for the smallest dogs. The sofa bed was really comfortable which was a pleasant surprise and parking outside the cottage was never an issue. If you could design a cottage to make a short stay with 3 dachshunds as easy as possible, it would be Snowdrop Cottage. Everything was spot on, from the split door between the front door boot area and the lounge to the plethora of stair gates, the secure garden and the easy clean surfaces. Kitchen was very well equipped (I even used one of the plasRead moreters in the first aid kit - the knives are brilliantly sharp), and of course spotless. Wouldnt hesitate to go back. Highly recommended! Hide
