For a relaxed countryside stay with family or friends, stay at this beautifully converted stone steading in the peaceful village of Thankerton. The three-bedroom home enjoys an enviable location alongside the River Clyde, so if you’re into angling you can partake in some trout fishing. Alternatively, you can simply soak up the calming, watery views from the comfort of your cottage. The village itself has a welcoming feel, with a butcher and farm shop for picking up supplies (1.5 miles). The surrounding area is rich in places to explore, such as climbing Tinto Hill (5 miles) for panoramic views across the Clyde Valley or heading to the charming town of Biggar (6 miles), to explore its independent shops, eateries, galleries and museums. Nature lovers will also enjoy days out at Dawyck Botanic Garden, the Falls of Clyde, and New Lanark, all within 16 miles.

Step inside and you’re welcomed by a handy entrance hall, ideal for storing coats and boots after a day outdoors. The heart of the home is the spacious open-plan lounge, kitchen and dining area, where a large picture window frames uninterrupted views of the river and rolling countryside beyond. This sociable space also gives you direct access outside. On the ground floor, is the first of the three bedrooms – a comfortable king-size with traditional working shutters, along with a bathroom featuring a shower over the bath. Head upstairs to reach the second king-size bedroom, located in the eaves with two skylights. This room comes with its own Smart TV and beautiful green en-suite bathroom with a freestanding bath. The twin bedroom also has skylights and its stylish en-suite shower room, with a large walk-in shower.

Outside, you can dine in the fresh air on the enclosed patio, complete with a picnic bench overlooking the river and surrounding countryside. You can also help yourself to seasonal fruit and vegetables grown in the garden patches nearby, adding a lovely homegrown touch to your stay.
