  • Exquisite, stone, barn conversion, nestled in the verdant Grisedale Valley
  • A perfect, romantic retreat for two, in a magical, secluded setting
  • Less than 1 mile from stunning Ullswater and ideal for walking in the Helvellyn range
Property code: OC-SZ154

Follow fabulous mountain trails from the doorstep - this characterful barn conversion sits adjacent to one of Helvellyn's main footpaths and less than a mile from Ullswater. Nestled in the verdant Grisedale Valley, it's a romantic retreat for an adventure-loving couple and their canine plus-one.

Step into the entrance hall and a door leads into a stylish bathroom. A few steps up from the hall, the open-plan living space has a stunning vaulted ceiling, skylight windows, A-frame beams and deep stone walls. Cook up a tasty meal for two, chat about your day as you dine, then cuddle up on the sofa and choose a DVD - there's no TV signal here. Pup can choose a central spot and stay close at all times. At the end of the day, settle him in his bed then head off to your own - a dreamy double in a room with dual-aspect windows and plenty of storage for your belongings. For breathtaking views and sniffs of fresh air, step into the elevated garden. Later, fire up the BBQ and watch as stars pass overhead - with no light pollution, the night skies here can be stunning. There is ample off-road parking, too.

Let pup take the lead as you discover more about your idyllic surroundings; explore the Helvellyn range and take in serene Grisdale Tarn, about 2.5 miles away. For a longer adventure, hike 4 miles to the Aira Force Waterfall and you'll get some great views over Ullswater. Dog-friendly Steamer boat trips run between Pooley Bridge and Glenridding.

This cottage is in an amazing location in the depths of Grisedale. Walks up and down the valley, and to Helvellyn are right outside the door. There is also a path leading up the fellside behind the cottage which gives beautiful views across to Ullswater. The cottage is very comfortable, and the heated bathroom floor very welcome on cold mornings. RRead moreecommend taking a few DVDs! Hide

We enjoyed our week in Cruck Barn, at end-July 2024. The property was fresh and just right for two people. Very comfortable with all key appliances provided. The reduced telecoms connectivity did not affect us particularly as there is Wi-Fi and most of our devices could connect well. Best bring DVDs and/or a TV FireStick as there is no live TV. Property was clean and well equipped. Cruck Barn has been well thought out, showing the beautiful stone work and beams. Views are absolutely stunning, from all angles. We had a wonderful stay and the peace and quiet was just what we hoped for. Friends are already asking for details from pictures we took.
