Superb family holiday with 8 adults, 6 children and 2 dogs. Excellent location for all activities within Forest of Dean. Chaxhill provides comfort over luxury, which with young children and 2 dogs is preferable. Kitchen well kitted out, large fridge freezer and a separate smaller one which we used for drinks. and found range easy to use. Plenty of Read morehot water for showers. Beds clean and comfortable. For anyone reading previous reviews and concerned about one of the doubles only accessible through double+single room, there is a bathroom conveniently in the corridor between them. Attic room with 3 beds is a little small/low eaves, but our 6ft grandson did manage with his younger brother! There is no BBQ as such, just a fire pit with a stand/grid above which we were able to use for some basic camp-fire cooking and toasting marshmallows which the kids loved. Pool table was well used, a little tight in terms of space but didn't spoil the enjoyment. All in all, a great property in particular for family get togethers. Many thanks to the owners. Hide

Ideal location for a family reunion, with an excellent secured garden for younger guests. One thing to bear in mind is the lay out of the bedrooms. In the wing with 3 bedrooms, the double room and double with a single, access is through the double with a single. Which can cause problems

Good sized barn for number staying but need to pass through one double bedroom to reach another double bedroom. Enough dining chairs but we had to bring kitchen table through to extend dining table to accommodate 14 chairs. Sofas comfy. Owner/ caretaker helpful and resolved a couple of problems quickly.

Lovely large lounge with pool table on a mezzanine above . This was much appreciated - grateful for being together. Good sized dining table - just big enough for 14 to squeeze round! Good sized kitchen, with big fridge and freezer in utility area. Lower floor plumbing was a real drawback. Basin, shower and toilet are emptied via a loud macerator loRead morecated in a bedroom. This arrangement is totally unacceptable and does not work. The toilet required multiple flushes and still did not clear. The shower in the Holly Barn annexe did not empty so couldn't be used. Outside space was very good and enclosed, but used for access to a neighbouring property, which we didn't expect. Hide

A lovely cosy and comfortable barn conversion. The beds were very comfortable, clean and warm. The owners were very quick to provide a couple of items that we needed. Brilliant place to stay. We were a party of 13 and it was great to have so many bedrooms and bathrooms. The lounge area was great and the pool table and table football were well used. A brilliant stay, would highly recommend.

We had a lovely, multi-generational weekend- the accommodation suits mixed age range. Most rooms are spacious/ well equipped. The walled garden is a great safe space for children and dogs. It is a few minutes walk from the Severn and Wye Smokery that has top rate deli, farm shop, fishmongers and cafe. Situated in ideal area for exploring the Forest of Dean and River Wye.
