Nestled in the picturesque Duddon Valley, this beautifully renovated cottage is the perfect rural escape. Providing ample accommodation for eight people and welcoming up to three playful pups, this characterful cottage is ideal for families and groups of friends that love the great outdoors. After thrilling days scrambling over fells, wandering around lakes and exploring quaint villages, return here for relaxing afternoons in the garden and sociable evenings in the cosy lounge.

Dating back to the 1700s, this property has been given a new leash of life with a contemporary makeover that embraces its original charm and character. Wash off muddy paws at the handy outdoor tap before stepping into this warm and homely abode. Set beneath a heavy beamed ceiling – rumoured to contain timbers from the Spanish Armada – the lounge is a welcoming haven after a day on the fells. Snuggle on the plush sofas while your worn-out pups snooze it off in front of the open fire, then head next door to rustle up tasty treats for all in the spacious and beautifully equipped kitchen. Feast together around the dining table or make the most of warm weather to dine alfresco, while your pups play in the garden and explore the property’s private orchard. A sunny conservatory offers a quiet spot to enjoy a cuppa or curl up with your current read. When it’s time for bed, head upstairs to get cosy under the covers. There’s a bunkroom for adults or children on the half landing, and three further bedrooms on the first floor with zip-and-link beds that can be arranged to accommodate your group. Three bathrooms plus a separate WC allow everybody to refresh with ease.

The surrounding area offers a wealth of adventures. Leave the car at home and grab a ball for the pups as you set off to hike Devoke Water, Harter Fell and Dunnerdale Forest (all within 6 miles). Head to Coniston Water (14 miles), where water dogs can join you on the Coniston Launch to cruise the lake, hopping on and off at leisure. Alternatively pop to Dalegarth to catch the La’al Ratty steam train to the coastal village of Ravenglass (12.5 miles), home to one of the best dog-friendly beaches in the Lake District.

We stayed as a family of 7 (4 adults and 3 children under 12) plus 2 small dogs. House was better than described and the views were to die for. In a beautiful quiet area with very little to disturb the peace. The house was very well equipped and really is a home from home with just about everything you will need right down to a sewing kit. Owners Read morewere present at property as we arrived (they had been gardening) and they were so welcoming and friendly. Most of the basic food supplies i.e. tea, coffee, sugar and milk were ready and waiting along with biscuits for humans and pets along with condiments for aiding cooking. Such thoughtful hosts. Really the only thing, you need to take are clothes and main ingredients for a meal (if you intend to just relax and unwind without venturing out). The beds were very comfortable and beautifully decorated. Everywhere was clean and bathroom where lovely. There were sensor lights in bathrooms which were great when going to the bathroom in the night. The only sensor light which was a bit delayed appeared to be in the utility room which only came on when you had walked right into the room but this wasnt a major problem. We will be returning i hope within the next few months as I have totally fallen in love with the place as did my grandchildren. Hide

We all enjoyed our stay in this cottage immensely. The location is beautiful and the house was well equipped and spacious with comfortable beds and lovely rooms. Enjoyed the house. Enjoyed the location. The walks from the front door were like walking in paradise. The cottage is well located away from the crowds that you encounter near the lakes. We made the most of walks and bike rides from the front door and hardly saw anyone (it was a school holidays!) Bike storage is very secure. The beds are comfortable and showers are good. Having an EV charger on site is a bonus (it's miles to the nearest charger). Fantastic cottage in lovely location, totally tranquil off the beaten track. Absolutely loved it. Garden is fairly small but totally enclosed, so safe for our springer. He was curious in the sheep in the field in front of the house but safely contained.

This is our seventh family gathering at various properties and we all agree that Esp Hall was the best yet. The location ( so peaceful) is perfect.
