This rural retreat looks out on the breathtaking Cumbrian countryside and makes a fabulous romantic bolthole or base for solo travellers. The pet-friendly shepherd’s hut – which can also accommodate two children if required – is adjacent to Smardale Gill Nature Reserve, offering opportunities for remote walkies and wildlife watching directly from the property. The vibrant market town of Kirkby Stephen is just 2.5 miles away.
The stylish, timber-clad shepherd’s hut is located on a working farm, surrounded by open fields, and is reached via a few steps to the front door. Inside, a warm welcome awaits, thanks to cosy underfloor heating and sumptuous soft furnishings. The holiday home has a studio-style layout, with an inviting double bed tucked away in the corner and a sleek kitchenette/breakfast bar along one wall. After a long dog walk, stretch out on the plump sofa to watch the Smart TV or simply admire the far-reaching views. A separate shower room rounds off the interior. Outside, sip a sundowner on the decked terrace or dine alfresco on the gravel area below. There’s an enclosed lawn area where the pups can play and private parking is provided for one car.
Journey into Kirkby Stephen to wander along its narrow, cobbled streets, popping into the quaint independent shops and eateries. Enjoy a dog walk around the town, admiring the many historic buildings, or join the Poetry Path for a tranquil stroll along the banks of the River Eden. Slightly further afield (approx. 7 miles), you and the woofers can take on the mighty Nine Standards Rigg; a challenging moorland hike, offering jaw-dropping views of the Lake District and Yorkshire Dales.
