Studded at the heart of a delightful village less than a mile from the sea, this charming property is the perfect choice for a relaxing staycation on the Northumberland coast. Ideal for small groups of up to four humans and two hounds, there’s a plethora of scenic trails leading directly from your doorstep to windswept beaches and dramatic castle ruins. When your paws grow weary, return your cosy abode for an evening of fine dining and good wine, letting sleeping dogs lie by your feet, dreaming of their adventures.

Simple, stylish and lovingly accessorised with cheerful extra details, this quintessential cottage is brimming with home comforts. Wake up to the sounds of the village coming to life in the early morning, taking your coffee outside through the shared access path and up the steps to the enclosed garden. Sizzle up a special breakfast in the country-cottage style kitchen, slipping a few morsels to Fido as he waits patiently under the lounge/diner table. Banish any messes to the handy shower-room, hosing off muddy paws before relaxing on the sofas in front of a good film. Two small steps lead up to the comfortable bedrooms, each one dressed to perfection for a restful night’s sleep.

Your sea dog will adore frolicking in the waves of the nearby beaches, thundering across the sandy shores of Embleton Bay and sniffing for rabbits in the dunes. A 3.5-mile walk or drive will bring you to Craster, where you can explore the pretty harbour and sample some tantalisingly fresh seafood. From here, you can walk along the rugged coastal path to reach the National Trust site of Dunstanburgh Castle with its imposing ruins and spectacular views.

We had a really nice Christmas at Duck Down Cottage. It was very well equipped, comfy, relaxing and exceptionally clean. A lot of thought went into the decor and furnishings. Coastal walks on the doorstep. The Greys Inn pub is a 10 seconds walk from the cottage, people very welcoming and friendly. We hope to return.

Beautifully appointed and maintained, we have really enjoyed our stay at Duck Down. Not stayed in Embelton before but it acted as a good base for local walks and pub visits. Property is deceptive in size which was a pleasant surprise. There's also a decent outside area/ garden which we didn't make use of but would be a bonus for guests in summer moRead morenths Hide

lovely cottage in a pretty area. We chose the area for sight seeing and were not disappointed. there was so much to see and we could easily have spent more time there. Duck Down was clean, comfortable, and well furnished. Parking was available at the house and there was small but nice garden to sit out in. A shop across the road stocked local produRead morece and a garage round the corner had selection of groceries. The local nature reserve had a dark sky area. We would certainly come back. Hide
