Stay at this spacious house in pretty Appledore, a North Devon fishing village with everything you need for a relaxing holiday. With lovely views over the Taw-Torridge Estuary, you can start admiring the beautiful scenery as soon as you wake each morning. The house welcomes six people and one canine chum over three floors. There are plenty of options for dog-friendly activities nearby – whether it’s wandering down characterful narrow streets, drinking coffee on a cafe terrace or taking a boat across the estuary to nearby Instow (5 miles).

A quirky, colourful decor gives this accommodation style and individuality. The main living space is perfect for mingling as a family, be it preparing snacks in the kitchen, stretching out on the sofa with the dog or admiring views over the estuary from the Juliet balcony. The floor here is non-carpeted so it’s easy to sweep up dog hairs. Out the back there’s an enclosed courtyard where you can eat on warm days while Cooper hounds you for scraps. There’s a small patio to the front of the property too, presenting more opportunities for enjoying the fresh air.

Within 0.5 miles you’ll find a pretty harbour, a chip shop and a 17th-century waterfront pub where dogs are welcome. Walking your little fluff bundle is easy from here – Northam Burrows Country Park, a coastal plain with salt marshes, sand dunes, horses and grazing sheep, is less than 1 mile away. You might choose to amble around the estuary or along the sandy beach at Westward Ho! (3 miles). For a spectacular day out spotting puffins and grey seals, head to Bideford (3.5 miles) and take a boat to Lundy, a 3-mile-long island in the Bristol Channel.

  • 3 bedrooms - 1 king-size, 1 super-king-size zip-and-link (which can be made up as a twin on request) and 1 bunk bedroom

We were surprised it was over 3 floors. Got fed up of going up and down. Say they have left fudge and honey as a welcome gift but there wasn't any. Told we needed a parking permit and it was in the hall. It wasn't and never found it . Said use the food recycling bags under the sink but there wasn't any. The little courtyard garden needed tidying. TRead moreable and chairs had a cover over it that was covered in green slim and had puddles of water on it with a dog bowl chucked in it. Got Details a few days before the holiday saying dogs not allowed on the furniture or beds. Too late to cancel. So I would say dog tolerate not dog friendly. The property inside was clean and tidy though. Hide

Lovely cosy cottage with the most fabulous views over the estuary. Lots of home comforts, plenty of space and almost everything we needed was there. Only a short walk to the quay and shops. Would definitely recommend.

Very comfortable stay with well equipped kitchen and lovely comfy bed. Cottage was a short walk from the centre of Appledore so easy access to pubs/restaurants/shops. If taking your dog as we did would recommend a short walk to the nearby field as mentioned in the doggy notes before going into Appledore as there is no where for toilet breaks in theRead more centre. Found lovely pizza place in town, very cosy and good prices. Hide

We loved this cottage and had a great week in Appledore. It's situated near to the only grocery shop - John's - which was handy for getting supplies and nice things for lunch. Cafes, pubs and fish and chip shops (which both seem to kink with a pub) we're near too, and we drove 11 mins to Westward Ho! when we wanted to swim.

We had a lovely stay at High Tide. The views over the estuary are fabulous and we watched it's changing moods with interest. The cottage is very comfortable (great bed) and so well equipped. The extra touches provided for guests are very thoughtful. We would be very happy to come back again - not something we say about all the places we visit.
