Step back in time and relax with man’s best friend at your heels, staying in this charming 17th-century cottage in beautiful rural Devon. Complete with charming original features and the décor to match, this two-bedroom cottage happily sleeps four guests and two dogs on the walking trip of a lifetime. Dog-walkers aplenty are on offer in the local area, whether you’re challenging yourselves to the full 180-mile Tarka Trail or hoping to tootle along the South West Coast Path from one of the county’s most fantastic pup-friendly beaches. Wherever you may end up, this inviting cottage welcomes you home at the end of each day.

Let sleeping dogs lie in the ever-comfortable lounge, a wonderfully appointed space with an original wood burner to keep the room cosy and warm. Despite jostling for the top dog spot on the hearth, we're certain that both of your dogs will find somewhere cosy to snooze as you sink into the sofa and switch on the Smart TV. Step through into the kitchen where an old Rayburn adds to the charm of the place. From here you'll also find a handy utility room with washing/drying facilities, ideal for getting overused doggy towels clean. Finally, two bedrooms await on the first floor. Accessed via separate staircases, these king-size bedrooms offer a restful night's sleep ahead of adventure-packed days yet to come.

Have a ball when exploring the ever-changing scenery of Devon, setting off to explore the countryside around you or leaving no stick unetched along the remarkable coastline. Pack a picnic and venture into Exmoor (11.5 miles), perhaps heading to Lynmouth (19.5 miles) to follow The Two Moors Way throughout the National Park. From here you also have direct access to the South West Coast Path (16.5 miles), although for an undisturbed day at a dog-friendly beach we recommend heading to the wide sandy shores at Woolacombe (16 miles).

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 king-size and 1 king-size zip-and-link (which can be made up as 2.6ft twin beds on request)
  • 1 bathroom with shower over the bath and WC and downstairs loo
  • Electric oven and hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave, and a washer/dryer
  • Travel cot and highchair available on request
  • Wood burner (logs provided)
  • BBQ located by the wild flower meadow

A beautiful, comfy cottage. Idyllic in so many ways, beds super comfy and lounge is luxury, if your lucky enough for it to be cold the fire on the lounge is amazing and the logs supplied just give such a cosy feel. Codden Hill is a super close walk with stunning views on a clear day, please go there, take a breath and relax. Only thing to note is iRead moret is 15-20 mins to Barnstaple so bring some supplies and be organised on your shopping. The owners are very helpful and their welcome notes give you great advice. Our stay at Summermoor was perfect, relaxing and felt very homely. Sophia lives locally and communication was great. The cottage was easy to find. Sophia has equipped the cottage to a high standard, we had everything we needed especially for cooking and preparing meals. Lots of information on the history of the cottage and the local area. The gardRead moreen is huge, although not fenced but the hedges and gate were enough to keep our dogs in and safe. The cottage is surrounded by fields, with lovely views. We had a clear sky each night, so able to see the stars which looked so close. We visited the local beaches Saunton bay and Croyde beach both dog friendly in March. We also visited Clovelly and Westward Ho well worth a visit. I would certainly recommend staying at lovely Summermoor Hide

This is one of those places which you want to keep for yourself. No question if, but when you book. Superb! Even a big tarmac parking place. Big advantage, in coast towns it is difficult to park near your holiday house and here is one at the doorstep. A true Devon thatched home, what is not to love. Do yourself a favor and book!

We loved this property as it was just what we were looking for! With two dogs we needed a secure garden for them to enjoy enabling us to relax at the same time! They loved it! The location will mean you need a car to get around, but thats ok! The windy roads leading to the cottage made it an exciting drive every time! We will be back! Thank you!!
