There are plenty of attractions nearby in Appledore, Westward Ho! and Northam Burrows (all 4 miles). Or take to the streets of Bideford to explore its independent boutiques, dog-friendly pubs, eateries, harbour and galleries.

Outside to the rear, there’s a patio for you to sit with a glass of wine and furry friends can watch the boats drift by. Now for the hardest part: choosing a beach or beautiful location to explore with your four-legged confidants.

For a start, try pristine Putsborough beach near Croyde (21 miles) for foamy frolics and sandy fun. Saunton Sands (17 miles) is also highly recommended for dog-kind shenanigans and stunning surroundings. Woolacombe and Ilfracombe (both 22 miles) are a paradise for rock-pool purveyors. Explore the wild Hartland peninsular, find its Abbey and dramatic lighthouse (16 miles).
