Property code: OC-88196

Quirky with heaps of character and original features, this holiday property is something a little bit different. There’s space to sleep eight humans and two dogs, so it’s a great place for a big family holiday or a get-together for a special occasion. It’s in a lovely village with pretty much everything you could need in the heart of the Peak District, surrounded by rolling countryside and tail-wagging walkies.

Reached via some external steps, this beautiful conversion has been completed with a respectful nod to the building’s former life. You can see the previous layout and imagine the chapel services – lots of original features have been kept and there’s even some authentic furniture. There are some welcome additions too: a wood burner (perfect for pups to snooze beside), four gorgeous bedrooms, two beautiful bathrooms, and an Xbox and a Smart TV. The house has a pretty cottage-style garden with gorgeous planting and patio furniture so you can enjoy the views with a glass of something on a sunny day. Best of all, it’s enclosed, so your furry family members are free to safely potter around to their hearts’ content.

Known for its stunning countryside and wonderful walks, there are lots of hiking trails and cycling routes nearby. The High Peak and Tissington Trail are both less than 3 miles from the house (you can hire bikes from the visitor centre in the village if needed). There’s a lovely walking route around Carsington Water (15 miles away) where humans can also have a go at a range of water sports. If you like snooping around posh houses, Chatsworth is 14.5 miles away and medieval Haddon Hall is 12 miles away (they’re close to each other so you could visit them both in a day). While pups aren’t allowed inside, both offer some lovely pet-friendly walks within the grounds.

  • 4 bedrooms – 2 king-size rooms, 1 twin and 1 twin zip-and-link room (which can be made into a super-king-size bed if requested at the time of  booking)
  • 2 bathrooms – 1 bathroom with free-standing bath, separate shower and WC, and 1 shower room with shower and WC
  • 2 electric double ovens, induction hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, washing machine, microwave and wine fridge
  • Wood burner (first basket of logs provided)
  • Smart TV in the lounge, TVs in the 2 king-size bedrooms and TV with Xbox in one of the twin rooms
  • Patio garden with seating surrounded by mature planting
  • Off-road parking for up to 2 cars
  • Electric Vehicle charging point
  • Pub and shops within 350 metres
  • A few external steps to reach the property
  • Electric vehicle charging on site
  • This property will be decorated for Christmas
  • Arrival: 16:00 onwards
  • Departure: before 10:00
  • 2 dogs allowed. Additional charges may apply

Great second stay at the Old Chapel for a family get together. Heavy snow overnight meant we could go out on the sledge. Plenty of logs to put on the log burner kept us nice and warm. The cottage is well equipped and felt like home from home. Plenty of nice walks on the doorstep and a nice pub for food. Cheese shop worth a visit too. A really great house in a great location. Super comfortable with excellent furnishings (bed linen, towels, etc) and really well equipped throughout. Would, and will be, recommending and would certainly return if we are ever looking for somewhere in the area again.

This is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful spot. It has a fab kitchen which had every implement we needed. We stayed in a very cold week and the cottage was cosy and warm. This is our second time in this place so we obviously love it. There are so many interesting walks nearby and places to visit. We didnt realise Derbyshire was so stunning.

A well appointed cottage with everything you would expect other than salt which has always been available at other properties. The heating was tricky, the instructions in the manual are incorrect for overriding it. My nephew worked it out eventually...I think you just press up and down arrows and make sure the flame is showing? The Devonshire Arms Read morewas excellent but The Charles Cotton Hotel on New Years Eve was appalling....never had such bad food....give it a miss. Hide

A superb conversion of a chapel into lovely accommodation, with a well-stocked and well-appointed kitchen, and with good views across to the church. All 4 bedrooms were comfortable, and the open-plan middle floor was ideal for our celebratory family gathering. Pub and village shops a minute or two on foot away .
