This beautiful lodge, is just 0.5 mile from the picturesque town of Hay-on-Wye, famous as the 'Town of Books' which plays host to the International Festival of Arts and Literature, annually in May. It boasts a wide range of cafes and restaurants and quirky independent shops.  The lodge is surrounded by trees, allowing you to fully immerse yourself in nature and switch off from everyday life. You and your canine companions will be spoilt for choice when it comes to walks in the area, with the Wye Valley walk passing through the property, the Offa’s Dyke Path less than 1 mile away, and the Brecon Beacons National Park on your doorstep. For dramatic scenery and a slice of history, head to the spectacular ruins of Llanthony Priory, 12 miles from the property.

This wood-clad property has an open-plan layout and is filled with natural light, thanks to the large floor-to-ceiling windows framing the stunning woodland surroundings. Relax on the comfy sofas to watch TV or simply sit back and take in the peaceful setting. The area is warm and cosy thanks to underfloor heating, creating some fabulous dozing spots for the woofers. The spacious kitchen is the ideal place for the dog beds, as from here the pups can potter in and out to the decked veranda. The veranda, nestled amongst the trees, is a magical place to sit with a glass of wine in the evening, just listening to the forest and reflecting on your day.

The 177-mile Offa’s Dyke Path is the perfect way to appreciate the beauty of the area’s landscape. The path criss-crosses its way along the Wales/England border, passing through three Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It’s broken down into manageable segments, so you can choose which part suits you and your furry friends’ walking abilities. The atmospheric ruins of Llanthony Priory, in the shadows of the Black Mountains, are truly breathtaking. The Priory is particularly dramatic at dusk and the area is also one of the national park’s top sites for stargazing.

We enjoyed a very relaxing stay in a superb setting. The lodge is comfortable and well equipped and the owners were there to welcome us and to answer any questions. The surrounding area is great for walking including the Wye Valley Walk which is easily accessible.

The Bothy was the perfect weekend retreat and we would have loved to stay longer. Spacious but cosy, and very well equipped. The location is private and feels remote but is easily walkable to everything Hay has to offer. We hope to visit again
