At a glance

  • Remarkable views of the Usk Valley and main Beacon mountains
  • Nestled above the medieval village of Tretower
  • Thoughtfully designed retaining ancient oak beams
Property code: OC-BN126

Scamper back through time discovering the fascinating history and heritage of Tretower, a destination known for its medieval court and circular tower that has set tails wagging for centuries. Your cosy base sleeps two along with a tufty pawed companion, so you’ll soon be investigating the marvellous Brecon Beacons and sweeping Usk Valley with plenty of stops for a picnic. Crickhowell promises local fare and dog-friendly pubs, and your private outdoor terrace is perfect for stargazing with treats after a busy day.

Beneath the stone exterior of this charmingly converted barn is a sanctuary characterised by its surprisingly contemporary kitchen, period beams and comfortable bedroom that has ample space for a basket. Kick off your boots and wipe down Fido’s paws at the doorway, hanging up the leads and stepping inside for a hearty meal at the table followed by drinks on the sofa watching TV. You’ll be able to rejuvenate yourself in your shower room, and Rover will love snoozing at your feet whilst you dine alfresco outside in the gravelled courtyard, but please take care with curious pups as it is not enclosed.

Your doorstep gives way to a plethora of trails such as the Beacons Way and routes through the Black Mountains, while there’s also lots of potential for exploring the village. Wander down to the iconic castle and sniff out the views or hop in the car and cross the famous bridge into Crickhowell 2.5 miles away to pad around the shops and grab a bite to eat. Abergavenny is a must for any foodie 8.5 miles away, but the culture enthusiast will adore Brecon 13 miles away and its vibrant art scene that includes galleries and glass blowing.

This property is tucked away and is certainly off the beaten track. I would advise if you are out all day plan your day as its not an easy drive with sheep and cattle roaming free. The property is one of three, we were in the stable. The surrounding views are outstanding but could be improved with some new patio furniture. Overall the Cottage is a Read morenice place to stay but in my opinion it needs some refurbishment and updating, it is very tired. The bed is very soft Hide

Perfect location with lovely views. The cottage was perfect for two, plenty of space and the bed was comfortable. All the basic kitchen equipment was provided.

Super views from the patio areas. Need to be aware that it is about 2km up a very narrow road with very limited passing places, so it isn't suitable for popping in and out during the day.
