This handsome stone house sits in the heart of Tortworth Estate overlooking the church. Two canine companions who love bounding through the countryside will adore the variety of walks on offer from the doorstep. Plus, humans can fish for their supper in the well-stocked trout lake or treat their pups to a day out at one of the dog-friendly attractions nearby.

Sit on the pew in the stone porch, shed the wellies and clean off the dogs, before entering the charming traditional cottage. Head to the rear of the house to the welcoming farmhouse kitchen, get the kettle on and toss the pups a couple of treats, while the others fire up the wood burner in the cosy lounge. The dining room is a great space for a leisurely evening meal, or to get competitive over a board game, and the window seat offers the perfect spot to steal a quiet moment with a book. The enclosed gardens provide an excellent backdrop for outdoor games on sunny days, and a stress-free place to let Bella and Buster burn off some energy. There’s a BBQ on hand if the weather is good, and ample storage for bikes.

There is a wealth of way-marked walking trails in and around the estate, and a farm shop 500 metres away, brimming with fresh local produce. Beautiful Lower Woods, 6 miles from the house, is a great place to explore - the ancient woodland criss-crossed by streams and grassy paths is heaven for dogs too. Take a trip to the market town of Berkeley, and visit Dr Jenner’s House and gardens, or explore Berkeley Castle which has regular themed events for children. The Butterfly House is a great rainy-day place to visit too - don’t forget to wear bright colours if you’d like to encourage some of the 42 species to land on you!

Had a great time at Church Cottage despite inclement weather. Delicious Apple cake on arrival. Bentley our Cockerpoo lovig chasing leaves in the wind in the great garden. House massive. Would recommend Swan at Tytherington. Shame Farm shop Cafe don't allow dogs inside and no covered area outside (you are losing a great deal of custom).
