This red-brick barn conversion couldn’t be more perfect for a holiday with the dogs, set on a working farm deep in the Shropshire countryside. With two bedrooms, it’s a great fit for couples or small families looking to enjoy a rural break near the England/Wales border. You’ll have excellent walks nearby and resident sheep and cattle creating a quintessential farm atmosphere, making it easy to settle into slow-paced days with your four-legged companion by your side. Despite the beautifully remote location, you won’t be far from civilisation, with a traditional pub and restaurant in the nearby village of Northwood (1.5 miles).
Inside, the barn has been beautifully renovated with some character features still intact. The vaulted kitchen/diner, complete with exposed beams, is a sociable space for sitting down to meals after days spent out in the fresh air. After dinner, retire into the cosy lounge, which has a Smart TV and countryside views through its arched French doors. There are two bedrooms: a ground-floor double with an en-suite shower room – good for guests with limited mobility – plus a first-floor super-king-size with its own en-suite shower room. Outside, dogs can potter about safely in the enclosed rear garden while the humans relax on the furnished patio. There’s space for al fresco dining and garden games on the lawn, and ample off-road parking to make arrivals and departures easy.
Rural footpaths, countryside walks and charming market towns surround the property, so you won’t be lacking in things to do. Whitchurch (8 miles) is known for its elegant Georgian architecture and independent shops, while Shrewsbury (15 miles) has riverside strolls and historic streets – you can even take your dog into the historic abbey. Oswestry (15 miles) is another lovely day out, with weekly markets full of local produce and the impressive Old Oswestry Hillfort to explore (please keep dogs on leads due to grazing cattle).
