With your faithful hounds by your side, spend your days roaming the glorious Lake District countryside that surrounds this romantic country cottage. Tucked away in a quiet hamlet between Hawkshead and Ambleside, it offers an idyllic escape for a couple and two canine companions. Even pups with boundless energy will return home tired but happy at the end of each day after adventures along the banks of Windermere or on the national park’s many fells.

Decorated in soft, natural tones, this annexe-style retreat creates a calm and welcoming space for relaxation between exciting excursions. Your dogs can perch by the floor-to-ceiling windows, watching the world go by as natural light floods the open-plan living area. A breakfast bar separates the lounge and kitchen areas, providing a casual spot for romantic meals, with your furry companions never far from your side. On a sunny day, fire up the BBQ for a summer sizzler or wander down the road to the pub to relax in the beer garden with a pint and doggy treats on tap. When night falls, get your pets settled in their favourite blankets before heading upstairs to the king-size bedroom for a good night’s rest.

Spend time exploring Wray (2.5 miles), a striking lakeside castle surrounded by parkland and scenic walking trails. Follow the lakeshore path, where there’s ample opportunity for your dogs to dip their paws in the water. For a waterside adventure of a different kind, head to Ambleside (4 miles) at the northern end of Lake Windermere. From Waterhead Pier, hop aboard one of the lake steamers for a leisurely cruise. Four-legged friends travel for free. If your dogs are the adventurous type, the Carron Crag trail in Grizedale Forest, around 3 miles from the cottage, promises a magical woodland wander.

We had a lovely stay at the Hayloft, it is compact but contains everything a couple needs for a wonderful time in an ideal location. Loads of great walks from the doorstep, and a comfortable cottage and cute garden if you'd rather stay put and relax. This is a beautiful corner of the Lakes, and a very pretty, well-equipped, lovely-looking place to stay. We had everything we needed: bed linen, towels, kitchen equipment, and some thoughtful welcome touches. The cottage was spotlessly clean, with comfortable beds and crisp bed linen. Downstairs, there was a cosy, comfortable lounge to sit and restRead more our aching feet after walking miles. There's off-road parking, a lovely pub next door, and we will definitely return with more family to stay in the cottage (Peacock Cottage) next to the Hayloft, also owned by the same family. The only thing to fault was the British weather! Hide

Cottage was very cosy and very comfortable, it was in great condition and in a great location for walks from the property. Unfortunately, we found there was no adequate storage space for food and clothes. Had a super short break staying at the Hayloft in Outgate. So convenient and handy for a multitude of walks and the village pub! The cottage is small but ideal for myself and Bertie my dog. We had fabulous weather and the Lakes themselves weren't too busy. I would certainly recommend the cottageand hopefully we'll be back there soon.

Wonderful place - cosy, great location, and lovely vibe. But the sofa is terribly uncomfortable. If it wasn't for that, we'd happily return.

We spent new year at this beautiful cottage and had such a lovely time! Bed was really comfortable, smart TV, lovely towels provided and everything was clean and looked after. There are easy to follow walks to Coniston, Hawkshead and Ambleside straight from the door and we loved doing these during our stay. The pub next door was also great and is dRead moreog friendly too! Couple of things to mention. Sadly the hot water did not work very well. We had to get up at 7am and press the water to "boost" otherwise we would not be able to hot shower in a morning (Update: This issue has now be resolved). If not, we would have to set it to "boost" as we left for the day so we could have a warm shower when we got home. This was the same for warm enough water to wash up. We thought the garden would be attached to the property but it wasn't so we did not use this. Worth knowing for those with dogs wanting a secure garden. Overall, lovely cosy little place and perfect for just the two of us. We had a great time :) Hide
