A cosy retreat with a warm welcome, this friendly hideaway is perfect for smaller group escapes to the Lake District. Sleeping four guests, the two-bedroom cottage is set in the village of Staveley, 5 miles from Kendal and 8.5 miles from Ambleside. Head out on foot to explore the beautiful national park around you. Take a lake cruise out on Windermere from Waterhead, 8 miles away, or Bowness-on-Windermere, 5 miles away, where you can also board a heritage steam train on the Lakeside and Haverthwaite Railway. Venture 8.5 miles to the National Trust's Sizergh, with its beautiful medieval house and glorious gardens. While away an afternoon in bustling Kendal, browsing in the shops, galleries, museums and dining out on Cumbrian produce. Pick up some of the town's famous mint cake while you are here. Magnificent Ullswater, where you can admire the lake from a steamboat cruise, is 17 miles away.
Let yourselves into the cottage to emerge in the welcoming kitchen, which has a rustic feel, thanks to its flagstone floor, but is fitted with everything you require to help you prepare your meals. This gorgeous lounge/diner has a beautiful beamed ceiling and ample soft seating for you all to flop in front of the Smart TV. Dine in here too at the wooden refectory table. Make plans for the following day's adventures before climbing the stairs to the first floor of the cottage to stretch out on your comfortable bed. Here you have a lovely double bedroom, with a sleigh bed, and a pretty twin. The family bathroom, where you can relax in the tub or rinse under the shower, is also here.
Start the day with a cup of coffee in the sunshine out on the bench in the shared garden. Guests benefit from private, off-road parking for one average-sized car.
