Companionable down-time is the focus for your stay at this characterful country dwelling. Perfect for a pet-loving pair, it boasts walks from the doorstep plus access to a garden that borders the River Brathay. Less than a mile from Ambleside, it comes with the bonus of private parking so you can explore at your own pace.

Leave doggie gear in the entrance then wander through the hallway to an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner where you can unwind and spend quality time together. Choose a book from the shelves, find a film on the TV, and stretch out on the sofa as the pup snoozes at your feet. When tummies start to rumble the kitchen houses all the essentials of home, and there’s a small dining suite so you can eat in comfort. Lie-back in the bath tub or enjoy a refreshing shower before bidding goodnight to the pup; once he’s settled in his bed, make your way to your own double bedroom for the perfect night's sleep. Grab a breath of fresh air as you take a seat on the bench to the front of the cottage. Close-by, the shared waterside garden is right beside the river – watch for wildlife and listen to the water flowing by as you sit in the sunshine.

Let the dog take the lead as you sniff out some of the fabulous walks on the doorstep. Follow a footpath up to Todd Crag, half a mile away, or stride further on to Loughrigg Fell (2.5 miles). The National Trust's Stagshaw Gardens and the picturesque waterfall of Stock Ghyll Force are both a 1.5-mile walk from the cottage; when you need to refuel, it’s less than a mile to Ambleside’s pet-friendly shops, inns and eateries. Well-behaved dogs are welcome on many of Windermere’s lake cruises and leisure boats (1.5 miles), while fells and water of Coniston are just 7 miles away.

Good location. A couple of issues with the property: 1) House smelt damp / of dog 2) Radiator in bedroom off the wall. Admittedly was informed about this a couple of hours prior to arrival however told it would not impact our stay. Unfortunately we were staying during a particular wet period and all available radiators would have been helpful.Read more 3) Parking - parking is at the top of a steep cobbled track, which is relative narrow (no space for any turning on this track, have to reverse back down). 2 cars are meant to fit up there and this did not look possible. No alternative parking in the courtyard due to all belonging to other rentals. However, the photographs on the website for the property shows the parking for the other rentals and does not show the actual properties parking. I would not have booked it if there was accurate parking photographs as my car is small and has a small engine. Called twice to discuss with holiday cottages and were not offered solutions or compromises. Hide

A quaint cottage in an excellent location only a short walk from Ambleside. Lovely snug sitting room and comfortable bedroom. It was very nice to have a bath/shower. Washing machine was super useful to have and we cooked in several times.

Fantastic location, only a short walk to Ambleside which is a bustling little Town, full of great dog friendly pubs to finish an off a long day of walking. There are many beautiful walks on your doorstep at this location. Some that you can walk straight to or others than you can take a short drive to and take in all the views the Lake District has Read moreto offer. Getting to the property was easy, directions were given via email and explained everything to the T. We had a couple of teething problems with the property on the first day, but they were all rectified immediately and everything was in working condition by the time we returned from our walk. We'd certainly return! Hide
