Perfect for a pet-loving couple, this romantic retreat is in the heart of Ambleside. Expect a friendly welcome from the town’s inns and eateries and set off on tail-wagging walks from the doorstep – a parking permit means you can explore at leisurely pace.

With plenty of space for a pair of pups, this single-storey cottage has all the creature comforts of home. Enjoy down-time with your loved ones in the open-plan social space – a tiled floor draws together the discrete areas for cooking, dining and unwinding. In the lounge, comfortable sofas and armchairs are arranged before a wood burner-effect electric heater and a Smart TV, creating a cosy ambience as you cuddle up with the dogs at your feet. Once they’re settled for the night, head along the hallway to a peaceful king-size bedroom and sleek shower room. Take a seat outside for a breath of fresh Lakeland air - the front of the property basks in the afternoon sun.

Unpack and forget about your car for a few days – Ambleside is easily explored on foot, and a permit allows you to park nearby. You’ll find a great range of shops and places to eat and drink on the doorstep; for the full taste of local life follow the River Rothay up to Stock Ghyll Force (1 mile), or head to Wansfell Pike (2 miles). A mile south, Lake Windermere offers shoreline walks and dog-friendly boat trips. Well-behaved pets are also welcome on the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway, which transports passengers along 7 miles of scenic track between Eskdale (15 miles) to Ravenglass (30 miles), the only coastal village in the Lake District National Park.

Disappointing stay at Castle Crag, smell of damp on arrival, the property hadn't been cleaned properly, there was damp and black mould in the bedroom next to the bedside cabinet, the bed felt damp when sleeping, the ironing board was mouldy and stained and the kitchen utensils, pans etc had not been cleaned properly, most of our week we spent away Read morefrom the property and only used it for a bed for the night, didn't cook in the property due to the pans being dirty and food debris on unclean utensils. This is certainly not as advertised and certainly not a 4 star property - we have complained. We holiday in the lakes every year and this is certainly one of the worst properties I have stayed in for the money charged. Will not be staying again. Hide

Great central Ambleside location, very convenient for shops and restaurants. There were also several walks we could do starting directly from Ambleside

Lovely cottage, central to Ambleside. Excellent shower, good size bedroom and well equipped kitchen including a tassimo coffee machine. Will recommend this cottage to friends and family.

A little bit noisy and slight smell of damp. Otherwise, it was super comfortable and cosy.

Great central location. For that reason, it can get a bit noisy: right across the road from a pub. Great spot for two people.
