Dating back to 1700, this delightful apartment offers spacious and welcoming accommodation for up to four guests eager to explore Windermere and the heart of the Lake District. The property sits at the centre of Ambleside, with a wealth of friendly pubs and restaurants just a short stroll away. Ambleside is home to some fascinating and popular sites including The Bridge House, the Armitt Museum, Ambleside Roman Fort and Stock Ghyll Force. The northern edge of Windermere is just a mile away – from here you can take a boat cruise down the lake, calling at Brockhole, Bowness and Lakeside. For walkers and climbers the local area has a choice of destinations including The Old Man of Coniston, Wansfell Pike and Rydal Cave, all within 7.5 miles. Several other major lakes are within easy reach including Grasmere, Esthwaite Water and Coniston Water, all within 7 miles.

A flight of external stairs takes you up to the front door, leading through to a useful boot room before heading into the light and airy open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. From 1813, this was William Wordsworth's office where he worked as postmaster for Westmorland, with the big bay windows looking out over the town centre. The cheerful lounge has a Smart TV and sumptuous seating, and the stylish dining table is placed over by the bay window and the window seat, allowing ample slight to stream in. To the rear of the room, the sleek and stylishly arranged kitchen is fully equipped for preparing your favourite dishes. Heading along the hallway you will have a choice of two bright and relaxing bedrooms: the first is a lovely king-size room with window seating, wooden blinds and a Smart TV; the second is a characterful double with plenty of storage space, wooden blinds and a Smart TV. Each bedroom benefits from its own refreshing en-suite shower room.

The property has no outside space of its own, but it is ideally situated within easy reach of a choice of pubs, cafes and restaurants. A parking permit is provided for one car, which you can use at several carparks nearby and throughout the South Lakes. You can pull up outside the property to unload and to collect the permit.

  • 2 bedrooms – 1 king-size, 1 double
  • 2 en-suite shower rooms with shower and WC
  • Electric oven, induction hob, fridge, dishwasher and microwave

  • Travel cot and highchair available
  • Smart TV in lounge and each bedroom
  • Parking permit provided for one car for use on the nearby car park
  • Please note the property is accessed via a short flight of external steps

We have just returned from a fantastic stay in the Stamp House. The location is perfect, right in the middle of Ambleside (opposite the Royal Oak). You can sit at the table, and watch the world go by... The property is maintained to a high standard, two double rooms, with en-suites, and super comfortable beds. If you are going, please note these smRead moreall points in the kitchen: we couldn't find a potato peeler, the can opener is not great, and an addition of a medium sized pan would be useful. All of that said, we loved it, and will be returning. A lovely place to stay. Owners Response: We are so pleased you had a fantastic stay at Wordsworth's Stamp House. We always listen carefully to feedback from our customers, so thank you for leaving us your review. We have now added a potato peeler, and bought a new set of pans (including a medium sized one) and a tin opener. We hope to see you again soon Hide

This was our second stay at the apartment and we were just as impressed as we were the first time. The apartment is still spotless and tastefully decorated - the bed linen in particular smelt beautiful! The apartment is centrally located in Ambleside with all needs and wants within walking distance and you can easily pass time people watching from Read morethe large living room window. It's a perfect location from which to explore the rest of the Lakes and the parking permits provided really make parking around the area breeze. The only downside is that it can be quite noisy in the evenings and early in the morning from the restaurants and the upstairs neighbours were quite noisy this time too, so bear that in mind when booking. We will definitely be coming back for a third stay! Hide

Overall, the accommodation was good and ideally situated in the heart of Ambleside. We loved the walk to Grasmere and the Local waterfall. We highly recommend the Old stamphouse restaurant, Kysty's restaurant and my son and wife were particularly impressed with the new vietnamese eatery called Kopi Tiam cafe.
