Your canine companion will feel right at home as they pad about this stylish Somerset barn conversion. Sleeping two guests, the one-bedroom hideaway sits in lawned gardens at Ashbrittle, 7 miles from Wellington and 14 miles from Taunton. Ideal for human and canine relaxation, the retreat is also perfect for those eager to explore Exmoor and the beautiful Blackdown Hills.

The heart of the single-storey stone barn is an open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner/bedroom where you will feel far from the hustle and bustle of your daily lives. Return here after exhilarating dog walks through the scenic Somerset countryside. Light the wood burner so your pet can warm their paws from the comfort of the rug, while you settle back into one of the deep turquoise armchairs with your book and a cup of tea. Open the door to the patio instead on fine days. The kitchen space is well equipped for whipping up romantic meals for two. Let your pet cuddle up in their basket while you savour an outstanding night’s sleep in the king-size bed. There is also a modern shower room within the barn. Spill out onto the patio at every opportunity. Let your dog roll on the lawn while you dine at the table on balmy evenings. There is parking for one car at this cottage.

Pocket a few puppy treats and venture 11.5 miles to the fringes of Exmoor with its picturesque footpaths. The Quantock Hills, which Princess will also adore, begin 14 miles away. The National Trust’s Fyne Court, 16 miles away, is another great dog-friendly destination with its woods, meadows and parkland.
