Property code: OC-O34984

Surrounded by sweeping Devon countryside and far-reaching views, this characterful cottage is a tranquil hideaway for couples or solo travellers – especially those bringing a loyal four-legged friend along for the adventure. With 13 acres of private fields and woodland to explore straight from the doorstep, it’s a dream setting for tail-wagging wanders, peaceful lakeside pauses and even a quiet afternoon of fishing.

Step into the entrance porch, where coats, leads and muddy boots can be set aside before moving into the open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner. This welcoming interior blends rustic charm with modern comforts for a stay that feels both cosy and stylish. The plush sofa takes centre stage, inviting you to unwind with a book or film on the Smart TV, while your canine companion stretches out contentedly nearby. The compact kitchen is well-equipped for leisurely brunches or intimate suppers, and the dining table creates a lovely spot to linger over meals. A contemporary shower room completes the ground floor. Climb the open-tread wooden stairs to the king-size bedroom, where charming rural views greet you each morning. The balcony, complete with outdoor seating, is a wonderful perch for coffee at sunrise while your trusty hound watches the world go by below. Outside, there’s also a generous patio area with seating and a BBQ for al fresco dining. Roam through the surrounding fields, where alpacas and horses graze in enclosed paddocks, before heading down to the lake for a picnic or an evening beside the fire pit.

You’ll have easy access to both the golden beaches of the North Coast and the wild, open landscapes of Dartmoor, along with its chocolate-box villages and endless walkies. Bude (18 miles) is a popular seaside town with independent shops, tempting eateries, a wide sandy beach (pets on the lead in the summer) and access to the coastal path. Dartmoor National Park (13 miles) calls to walkers, cyclists and wildlife watchers alike, while a nostalgic journey on the Launceston Steam Railway (14 miles) makes for a memorable day out, with well-behaved hounds welcome on board.
