Climb the National Trust’s Glastonbury Tor with Rover by your side and take in the astounding views together. This four-bedroom retreat on a farm at West Pennard is a 3.5-mile drive from the iconic beauty spot, which looks right across the Somerset Levels. The handsome house, which sleeps eight guests and features a hot tub, is set in magnificent lawned gardens where Rover can also unleash some energy.
Wipe muddy paws in the porch, then follow Rover through to the gorgeous lounge, where you can throw open the French doors on warm days and stoke up the wood burner when it is chilly. Watch the Smart TV, then follow him through to the adjoining kitchen/diner when he is ready for his supper. Prepare hearty feasts for your large group here too, and gather round the farmhouse table. Challenge each other to pool tournaments in the games room, while Rover keeps watch and enjoys the heat of a second wood burner. There is also another Smart TV here. Also downstairs are a family shower room and a utility room. Settle Rover for the night before climbing the stairs to rest your own head. Two super-king sizes, a double and a twin, each with a TV, are up here, together with the elegant family bathroom, with its freestanding bath. Take Rover for a long walk around the grounds, then return to your private outdoor space to unwind on the patio and bubble in the hot tub. There is ample parking on site, plus a shared tennis court.
Venture 7.5 miles to the glorious surroundings of the Mendip Hills, with their many footpaths. Stockhill Wood, 12 miles away, is popular with dog walkers. If Rover is energetic, he might also like to accompany you on a hike through Cheddar Gorge, 17 miles away.
