Tucked into the rolling hills of the Welsh Marches, this characterful Herefordshire cottage sits close to the England–Wales border in a wonderfully calm patch of countryside that’s made for ramblers and their four-legged companions. Bursting with rustic charm, there's an electric Aga, and crackling wood burners for heat-seeking hounds, as well as plenty of garden space for curious noses to sniff around.
Inside, flagstone and limecrete flooring downstairs is practical for muddy boots and paws, while cosy carpets upstairs keep toes warm. Three wood burners dotted throughout the house add glow and warmth on cooler evenings. At the front, the kitchen/dining room looks out over the quiet lane and woodland, with an electric Aga, a big inglenook fireplace and a dining table for up to five. The snug sitting room is another welcoming spot, with sofas, an armchair and a wood burner for curling up after a day on the trails. To the rear, a second dining room gazes across open fields, with French doors bringing in the light and leading to the downstairs bathroom and porch. This handy porch doubles as a boot and lead drop-off point, with a washer/dryer, freezer and a door out to the garden and parking. Upstairs, you'll find two bedrooms with a bathroom between them, plus an additional WC. Outside, the front garden is enclosed with hedging and a picket fence, a safe little patch for your loyal hound to investigate. To the rear, the garden stretches past a small wooden barn and into an orchard where children and canine pals can potter and play. There’s also the Bait Room with benches and extra outdoor seating. A shallow stream runs just beyond the front fence, so little ones should be kept close as there’s no barrier on the lane side. A private driveway leads up to the cottage, providing ample parking right by the door.
A patchwork of green fields and age-old trails stretch in every direction, just waiting for daily walkies. The friendly market town of Kington is 2 miles away, handy for topping up supplies or stopping for a post-hike pint. From the doorstep, you can head out along Offa's Dyke Path or the Mortimer Trail, both firm favourites with waggy-tailed explorers. Alternatively, Hergest Ridge (6 miles) brings big views and bracing breezes.
