This characterful cottage enjoys a remote setting in the historic mining village of Nenthead, high in the North Pennines. The spacious property suits large families and groups of friends, along with four waggy-tailed companions. As expected, the area is awash with breathtaking walking trails, from exhilarating hikes at Cross Fell (11 miles) to relaxing waterside strolls at Summerhill Force (17 miles). For shopping and eating out, Alston is just 4 miles away.
The traditional Cumbrian cottage is warm and inviting, with exposed beams, whitewashed stone walls, and an array of creature comforts. On the ground floor is a large lounge with plush seating, a Smart TV, and a roaring open fire creating the ideal dozing spot for the pups. The social hub of the house is an impressive, farmhouse-style kitchen/diner where you can whip up delicious feasts and share family mealtimes together. Rounding off the ground floor is a cosy snug with a wood burner and French doors opening onto the garden. Upstairs, three gorgeous bedrooms await, one of which has an en-suite bathroom. Completing the accommodation is a family bathroom. Outside, you’ll find a vast, enclosed garden with a large lawn for the woofers and a patio area for al fresco dining. The property has on-street parking.
Nenthead is a small, rural village and is, in fact, the highest in England. For those interested in the village’s industrial history, you and the hounds (on leads) can enjoy a circular walk around the former mining site, which boasts spectacular views across the valley. The idyllic market town of Alston makes a lovely day out, with its cobbled streets and quaint shops, along with plenty of paw-friendly eateries. From Alston, you can join the long-distance Pennine Way, or hop aboard the heritage trains of the South Tynedale Railway for a scenic jaunt through the surrounding landscape.
