Sitting beside the River Severn, within acres of grounds and with country walks from the doorstep, this rural retreat is a real doggie delight. Let the pups sniff out the secluded garden, then chill out together in a choice of social spaces. Once they’re dog-tired, you can bask in the hot tub with a tipple from the owner’s cider farm.

This welcoming country residence is located on an award-winning cider farm with a shop selling its own drinks and other locally-made produce. Step through the lobby, and the fabulous kitchen/dining area has a range-style cooker, a long wooden dining table and ample floor space for the pups to stretch out as they keep watch for tasty titbits. Adjacent, the snug makes a perfect break-out space, with a sofa, TV and patio doors opening onto the garden. Perfect for those who prefer single-storey living, the ground floor features two bedrooms – one with an en-suite shower room – and a stylish family bathroom. Head upstairs, and the second of your social spaces is an elegant lounge with a high-beamed ceiling, far-reaching views, and a Smart TV. A door at one end leads into the third bedroom; for ultra flexibility, all of the beds here are king-size, with two of them having zip-and-link beds which can be made up as twins on request. Step into the secluded garden to continue your country-living experience – there’s a lawned area for garden games, a BBQ for al fresco dining and, on the terrace just outside the snug, a hot tub.

Explore the farm’s 4 acres and follow waymarked paths from the garden – the River Severn snakes around the property, and the pretty village of Newnham (3 miles) has a selection of pubs and eateries to satisfy every appetite. Enjoy walks through the ancient oak woodlands and pine forests of the Forest of Dean, or head into the Wye Valley National Landscape and visit Symonds Yat (16.5 miles), one of the UK's best birdwatching spots.

We just loved this cottage. It's in a beautiful peaceful location and perfect for visiting the Forest of Dean. The cottage is very comfortable and has everything you need. The beds were also very comfortable. May and Rick are the perfect hosts and provide a very generous welcome basket. Would definitely recommend.

May and Nick were the best hosts I have had at a stay EVER. Nothing was too much trouble and we felt very safe and welcomed. The property was very clean, comfortable and welcoming and in such a beautiful spot. The hot tub was wonderful, the gardens and the huge magnolia tree. We very much enjoyed morning coffee in the garden and evenings cooking anRead mored being together in the lovely spaces in the property. We will be back! Hide
