Indulge in a peaceful escape for two at this quaint studio apartment located 5.5 miles outside Hexham in the heart of the stunning North Pennines Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Sleeping two people in one bedroom and welcoming two canine companions, this romantic retreat is perfect for couples who want to discover the untamed beauty of Northumberland with their faithful friends by their side. Take a stroll around the historic market town of Hexham – even the Old Gaol Museum is dog-friendly – and in the evening, come home to the cottage to snuggle with your special someone in front of the wood burner while your dogs snooze at your feet.

Step inside and take a moment to admire this spacious studio, which consists of a lounge/kitchen and bedroom. Featuring stone walls, high ceilings and exposed beams, you’re sure to feel right at home. Unleash your inner chef in a kitchen area, where you’ll find everything you need to cook up a romantic feast for two. After dinner, step outside and you’ll find two folding chairs. Pour yourself a glass of wine and watch the sun set and the stars come out. Alternatively, simply snuggle up in front of the wood burner while your dogs stretch out and snooze in the fire’s glow. When it’s time for bed, cuddle up in the studio’s bedroom.

Take your pups to Aydon Castle (10.5 miles), a beautiful manor house in the village of Corbridge. The walled orchard is a fabulous spot for a romantic picnic, and the surrounding woodlands are sure to make tails wag. Or head into Hexham (5.5 miles) and take your pups on a walk around the oldest surviving purpose-built prison: Hexham Old Gaol. You and your pups can even visit the dungeons.

The Bothey is a beautifully quirky (floor on a slight slope, bed a little high, kitchen units higher than average compensating for sloping floor!) and attractive accommodation.. with the gorgeous wooden beams, exposed brickwork, log burning stove and a comfy bed. It's opposite the owners home at the top of a gorgeous drive on their estate. I'm beinRead moreg honest in that the shower could have done with a proper clean and a regrout but it was a real shame because otherwise we did enjoy our stay here. Hide

The building is 500 years old- so are the 7 or 8 steps up to it, would be dangerous if wet. We were unprepared for the very low beams, no signage as you walk in. Everything below beam level was beautifully clean, not so above, cobwebs everywhere. The entire place slopes towards the bathroom which makes using the kitchen a challenge. The worktop is Read moreok by the sink but way too high at the other end. No fire or electrical safety labels on anything. The bed was fabulous, as was the bathroom. Hide

This is a c16th bothey surrounded by countryside, a few miles south of Hexham. It's a competent conversion to a rentable guest unit and we enjoyed our 4 day stay there. It's certainly compact, but more than adequate for a short stay. Charlie and his mother are very pleasant hosts.

Beautiful building and setting. Nicely decorated and cosy with a fireplace. It is very rural so good for people who love walking and the countryside. A car is essential as it's quite isolated.

This lovely cottage is ideal for a couple with no dogs as there isnt a secure patio area, and no mobility issues as the steps up to the property are steep and uneven.
