Tucked away in the peaceful village of New Galloway, this characterful cottage makes an excellent base for friends or family travelling with their four-legged companion. Surrounded by rolling countryside and woodland trails, it’s a treat for walkers, golfers, wildlife lovers and history hounds keen to explore this scenic corner of Dumfries and Galloway.
Four external steps lead up to the front door, opening into a bright sun porch – a handy space for hanging up coats, kicking off walking boots and towel-drying muddy paws after rural fun. From here, French doors open into the welcoming lounge, where comfortable seating, a Smart TV and a fold-out dining table create a cosy hub for evenings in. The country-style kitchen sits just beyond, fully equipped with generous worktops and a breakfast table, making it easy to rustle up hearty Scottish meals after a day out with your loyal sidekick. Also on the ground floor is a fresh family shower room and the first of three inviting bedrooms – a double with a TV and leafy views. Upstairs, the airy landing has a desk and a chair for anyone who needs to log on. Two bright twin bedrooms sit beneath the sloping eaves, each with its own TV; one looks out over the garden, the other over a quiet lane. A first-floor WC completes the layout. Outside, steps from the back door lead down to a small, enclosed yard and on to a woodland garden outdoor furniture – a lovely place for morning coffee while your canine companion sniffs about. There’s bike storage as well as parking for up to four cars.
New Galloway itself dates back to the 17th century and is home to a pretty 9-hole golf course and the CatStrand arts centre. 1.5 miles west, Galloway Forest Park is a dream for adventurous paws and boots alike, with forest tracks, mountain-bike routes and the UK's first Dark Sky Park for stargazing after evening wanders. South of the village, Kenmure Castle lies less than a mile away beside the northern tip of Loch Ken – a lovely spot for a stroll on a lead. Further down the loch, Castle Douglas (14 miles) tempts with independent shops and dog-friendly cafes.
