Located in the pretty village of High Lorton, in the Lake District National Park, this charming two-bedroom property is a wonderful place to call home for a while. It’s the perfect holiday cottage for a couple or small family looking for long walks with their dog across scenic surrounding hills and fields.

An external stone staircase leads up to the front door of this end-of-terrace cottage. Inside, the ground floor is wonderfully comfortable and relaxed. Neutral tones and beautiful sash windows create a soothing atmosphere and after a day out exploring, you’ll want to sink into the lounge sofa with a drink in hand and your four-legged friend at your feet. On colder evenings, light the wood burner and snuggle up with a film on the TV. A pinewood table overlooks the lounge and is perfect for sociable meals, or for more casual dining, eat at the neat table in the kitchen. On the first floor, there are two light and airy bedrooms with windows that invite you to stop and stare at the green fields. There’s also a good-sized family bathroom on this floor. Back on ground level, head outside and you’ll find a snug under the house, accessed via an external entrance. Older children will love this separate space with relaxing seating and a desk for peace and quiet. Finally, a shared courtyard is a great spot for Fido to have a little potter while you enjoy a morning coffee.

On sunny days, you and your furry friend can splash in the Whitbeck that flows just outside the cottage or for a walk in nature, enjoy direct access to the path that runs from the village out towards High Swinside. Other walking routes include the 5-mile path to Crummock Water and the 7-mile hike to Scale Force Waterfall. For mountain biking trails, head 2 miles to Whinlatter Forest.

This cottage was in a perfect location for where we wanted to go. The views from the windows were breathtaking, and it was amazing waking up to that. The beds were very comfortable. We parked by the village hall which was perfect and you can tuck in quite well there as well.

A wonderful place in an amazing location. Beautiful views of the fells. Cosy and clean cottage. The bed was super comfortable. It was lovely and quiet and the village farm shop was great for fresh bread and milk. Hikes, runs and cycles right from the village, and generally not far to get to fantastic places. Cockermouth is only a 10-minute drive awRead moreay, which is really handy. We went to the Kirkstile Inn for dinner one evening (as recommended in the property welcome folder) and it was superb. Lovely cottage, great location. Wonderful holiday. But check particulars as no bean bags, tv or working wood burner in games room. Which was really disappointing ad wr booked this so our teenage kids had their own space. Response from holidaycottages.co.uk - Thank you for your comments, we can confirm that the owners have now updated the games roomRead more space. Hide

Very well equipped and clean with attractive quality furnishings, kitchenware, etc. Beautiful spot in middle of hamlet. Charming nearby village shop and public garden by stream to sit in. Easy access to hills for walking.

What a beautiful place to stay! Cosy, comfortable and very well equipped. Beautiful views from every window and walks in all directions. Would suggest walking around Buttermere (mid-week is quieter), ferry and walk around Derwentwater, forest walks in Whinlatter and coastal walks at St Bees.
