Located in the centre of pretty Ashbourne, this cottage is a great base for exploring one of the Peak District’s prettiest market towns with your dog. Step outside and you’re immediately among Georgian streets lined with independent shops, bakeries, antique stores and plenty of tempting cafés for a pit-stop after walkies. The cobbled marketplace (100 metres) adds a buzz to your days here. With room for four guests over its two bedrooms, this beautifully presented home works well for a small group of family or friends.
Reaching the cottage is part of the adventure, with an inclined walkway leading you into a tucked-away courtyard where the house sits. Inside, it’s laid out in a quirky way, with both bedrooms on the ground floor – a twin room plus a double with a shower room and WC (please note, these are only accessible via the double bedroom). Head upstairs to find the bright and welcoming living space that’s perfect for stretching out after a day of sniffing and strolling. Outside, the courtyard garden is a calm and enclosed spot to relax – you can easily keep an eye on your pup while you enjoy the fresh air. Parking is on-street or in nearby public car parks.
Ashbourne is a cracking base for dog-friendly adventures, with the Tissington Trail starting less than 1 mile away for long, traffic-free walks through lovely countryside. For splashy fun and riverside wanders, head to Dovedale (4 miles), famous for its stepping stones. Carsington Water (7 miles) has wide open paths and big views. Ilam Park (5 miles) is perfect for scenic strolls among grand landscapes, and Thorpe Cloud (5.5 miles) gives you and your pets a rewarding climb – you’ll need to keep them on a short lead due to sheep and wildlife.
