Set in the scenic Welsh village of Trellech, this period holiday home is a lovely base for a Wye Valley break with your four-legged friends in tow. Sleeping six, it suits families or groups of friends looking for village life and plenty of fresh air, not to mention fantastic walks. Your local village pub (300 metres) is ideal for a post-walk drink, while the village itself is full of historic interest – from prehistoric standing stones to the remains of a Norman castle and a 14th-century church.

The cottage blends period charm with comfortable living, with whitewashed walls, exposed beams and stonework and plenty of spaces for relaxing after busy days outdoors. In the lounge, sink into one of the sofas while the dogs settle at your feet, and enjoy meals in either the dining room or the sunroom (which also makes a fab doggie doze spot). Upstairs are three bedrooms, all with attractive period features – there’s one twin room and two doubles, one of which has an en-suite bathroom with a free-standing bath. There’s also a separate shower room on this floor. Outside, the lovely garden is arranged over different levels, with lawns, patio areas and mature planting, giving dogs interesting spots to sniff and explore (you may need to supervise them due to the tiered layout). Gated side access is handy for coming and going, and there’s private parking for two cars, reached via a neighbouring property.

You’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to countryside trails and open spaces nearby. Trellech Common (350 metres) and Beacon Hill (1.5 miles) offer excellent walking routes with far-reaching views, while the wider Wye Valley is packed with paths perfect for long, scenic rambles. History lovers can combine walks with sightseeing at Tintern Abbey (4.5 miles) or Raglan Castle (10 miles), both great for gentle exploring on leads. For a change of pace, the market town of Monmouth (5.5 miles) has independent shops, riverside walks and dog-friendly places to pause for a bite to eat, while Ross-on-Wye (18 miles) makes a good day trip for longer outings.

Lovely place to stay for the week over Easter. Thank you. Plenty of space for our family of five. Well equipped kitchen. Comfortable living space. The teenager revising for exams appreciated a desk to study at! Well located cottage for exploring the Wye Valley with riverside walks, castles and a ruined abbey all nearby. Trellech is a niceRead more quiet village and the Lion Inn serving good food is only a short walk away from Jasmine Cottage. Hide
