This traditional brick-and-flint cottage brims with seaside character and gives a warm welcome to couples or small families – wagging-tailed companions very much included. Set right in the heart of Sheringham, it’s a brilliant base in any season, whether you’re padding along the beach, roaming the coastal path with your trusty hound, or browsing the town’s independent shops.
Set at the end of a terrace, the cottage spans three storeys, with five steps up to the front door. From the tiled entrance hall, open-tread stairs lead down to the lower-ground-floor kitchen/diner/snug – a cosy space with wooden floorboards, pale cabinetry and a wood burner tucked into a brick fireplace. After a day exploring the coast with your faithful mutt, it’s a wonderfully homely place to unwind. The cook of the group can make the most of the well-equipped kitchen, while others curl up in the armchairs or gather around the dining table for four. On the ground floor, the bright lounge is made for downtime, with soft seating and a Smart TV. Cottage-style stairs lead to the first floor, where you’ll find two lovely bedrooms – a king-size and a bunk room – plus a family bathroom and a separate WC. The enclosed courtyard, accessed through a stable door from the entrance hall, is a safe little haven for your furry friend. With raised beds, a dining table and a pergola providing shade, it’s a lovely setting for morning coffees or al fresco dinners. There’s no dedicated parking, but on-street parking can usually be found nearby, and a pay-and-display car park is around 200 metres away.
2.5 miles from home is Sheringham Park, where sweeping parkland and ancient woodland trails make for blissful snuffling-and-strolling sessions. Jump aboard the heritage train to Holt (7.5 miles) for galleries, cafes and boutique browsing, or head to Cley Marshes (7 miles) if you’re into birdlife (pups on the lead April-August). A trip to Blakeney, 9.5 miles away, brings the chance to spot seals – an unforgettable outing for humans and curious canines alike. For another great stretch of sand and a Victorian pier, Cromer is 4 miles down the coast.
