Take the lead with a blissful break in this characterful, historic holiday home. An inspiring base for couples, friends or families, it also welcomes two pups for days of walking in the High Weald and evenings snoozing by the wood burner.
The unique lodge retains many quirky, original features, including internal steps, exposed brickwork, rugged beams and sloping ceilings – please mind your head in places. Admire the handsome exterior before following excited hounds inside, where you’ll find a welcoming lounge with a wood burner and Smart TV. Steps lead down to the modern kitchen/diner, where sleek fittings include a handy dishwasher, and there’s a long table for shared meals. Patio doors open to the garden, giving the room an indoor/outdoor feel on warm days. At night-time, say goodnight to your furry pals and explore the bedrooms. The first of two king-size rooms leads off the dining area, featuring panelled walls and handsome, antique furnishings as well as an en-suite shower room. Returning up the steps and through the lounge, the second king-size has stairs up to its en-suite bathroom, where there’s a free-standing bath and separate shower. Finally, the double bedroom also has stairs leading up to an en-suite shower. For fresh air and outdoor fun, the garden includes furniture and a BBQ for al fresco cooking. Parking for three cars is in the car park of the next-door pub (subject to availability).
The village of Cowden Pound is a fabulous base for long hikes with your four-pawed friends in the surrounding countryside. The Victorian pub next door, owned and run by the lodge’s owners, is very dog friendly if you feel like popping in for a pint. Dogs on leads are welcome in the grounds of Hever Castle, 2.5 miles away, and also in the outdoor areas at Chartwell, 7.5 miles away.
