Perched high above the River Swale in the heart of Swaledale, this characterful 300-year-old cottage makes a superb base for exploring the Yorkshire Dales. Surrounded by rolling hills with far-reaching panoramas all around, it’s the perfect place to get away from it all. Six guests and one happy hound have the run of this stone-built cottage, which features characterful accommodation and a gorgeous garden for soaking up the views.
This two-storey cottage has been lovingly refurbished, but it retains plenty of original charm with beamed ceilings, wooden floors and latched doors. The lounge invites you to unwind after days on the trails, sinking into soft seating to watch TV or chat about your adventures, your pup gently snoozing by the open fire. When tummies rumble, head into the light-filled kitchen/diner which has all the essentials for feeding hungry humans and hounds, and a dining table set in the window with far-reaching views. When it’s time to rest your head, three comfortable bedrooms entice you upstairs, a king-size master and two twins, which share use of the family bathroom. A handy, ground-floor utility room makes light work of muddy walking gear and towels used to dry wet paws. Bordered by a traditional stone wall, the enclosed garden offers a safe space for children and dogs to play, while the adults fire up the BBQ or enjoy an evening tipple while gazing at the view. Parking for three cars along with secure bike storage adds convenience.
Walking routes weave out from your front door into the Yorkshire Dales, including picturesque trails to East Gill Force (7 miles) and Aysgarth Falls (12 miles) to admire gushing waterfalls. Hawes, Richmond and Leyburn offer market town charm, heritage buildings, and delicious local food options within 16 miles.
