Just outside the town is the fascinating Gelt Woods, where you and the pups can marvel at the Roman quarry used to build Hadrian’s Wall and wander through the impressive, sandstone gorge and ancient woodlands. Alternatively, for a waterside stroll, journey to the beautiful Talkin Tarn Country Park (9 miles), known for its breathtaking glacial lakes and stunning views.
