Characterful and traditional, this gorgeous, thatched cottage in Osmington is wonderful for a countryside holiday with up to two dogs. There’s space for eight humans over its four bedrooms, making it ideal for groups of friends or family. While it’s pretty rural here, with your nearest pub 1 mile away, in Weymouth (5 miles), you’ll have plenty of pubs, restaurants and shops for supplies. Your pups will be pleased to learn you’ll be perfectly positioned to explore the Jurassic Coast, with a great mix of beaches, countryside and historic attractions all within easy reach.

Previously an 18th-century Post Office, this welcoming home is charming and quirky, with original features like wooden beams and new touches that respect its vintage. There’s a cosy living room for relaxing after walkies, plus a separate snug with a Smart TV. The kitchen/dining room features a traditional AGA and looks out over the rear garden, with French doors opening onto a private patio and enclosed garden – handy for fresh air-loving dogs. On the ground floor (with a step leading into the room) is a king-size bedroom with an en-suite shower room and French doors straight into the garden. Upstairs are two further king-size bedrooms and a bunk bedroom with a baby’s cot, along with a family bathroom featuring a roll-top bath and WC. Outside, the mature garden is a lovely, shared space for downtime – please note there is a pond, so dogs and children should be supervised. Parking is available for one car at the rear, with additional on-street parking nearby.

Nearby, join the South West Coast Path (1 mile) for miles of clifftop walking with sea views and plenty of sniffing opportunities. Ringstead Bay (4 miles) is a favourite for sheltered coastal walks (watch out for signs about nesting birds), while the dog-friendly Chesil Beach (10 miles) provides dramatic scenery and long, open stretches to explore on lead. Weymouth’s harbour, esplanade and historic Nothe Fort also make for an enjoyable day out. Abbotsbury (12 miles) is well worth a visit for its village charm and gardens (dogs on non-extendable short leads welcome).
