Lap up the beauty of North Yorkshire with a stay at this cosy couple’s retreat, where your curious canine is just as welcome as you are. Only 4 miles from Whitby, it's the perfect base for scenic beach walks, gorgeous countryside trails and relaxed evenings unwinding in the hot tub.

Step into this elegant one-storey retreat and watch your furry friend lead the way as you explore the open-plan living space. Cosy, sumptuous furnishings and a glowing wood burner make the ultimate combination for intimate evenings after days of exploring in nature, while large glass doors fill the space with light. Your pup will have plenty of sunny spots to pick from while you rustle up meals in the compact kitchen, and when dinner's ready, serve at the foldable table, but watch out for wayward snouts. Spend hours throwing sticks outdoors in this designated Dark Skies location, before climbing into the wood-fired hot tub for a nightcap and soak. Starry nights are a real treat here, and with the fire pit glowing beside you, it’s the perfect spot to sit back with a drink in hand and lap up the breathtaking, star-filled sky. At bedtime, say goodnight to your pooch and head to the king-size bedroom, which is as chic as the en-suite shower room.

Pull on your walking boots, pack up the dog lead and stroll off on walks from the doorstep. Whitby is 4 miles away, and with its bustling harbour, quirky narrow streets and imposing abbey, it's packed with sights and scents for you and your pup. Spend time on the beach here, or venture 5 miles to either Sandsend or Robin Hood’s Bay. On the way home, treat yourselves to a tummy-filling fish and chips in Sleights (1.5 miles).

We wanted a tranquil escape and that is exactly what we got at Roe Deer Lodge - an absolute gem. The setting is idyllic (helped by the snow) and the lodge is set by a babbling brook nestled in a valley. The lodge is well equipped, clean and cosy and very tastefully thought out. Unfortunately we did't make use of the hot tub but we are definitely Read moregoing back to try it! Michelle and Glen are amazing hosts and extremely helpful, the nicest people. They are very knowledgeable and helped us find a lovely walk to the local hamlet to get supplies. We had to cut our break short due to the amount of snow on the driveway but they went above and beyond to ensure our safety. If you want a relaxing break in the perfect setting, you will not be disappointed. Cannot wait to go back in the summer. Hide
