Sitting atop one of Port Isaac’s prettiest hills, this beautiful bolthole is every salty sea dog’s dream. Enjoy waggy-tailed walks to the village’s historic harbour and longer leg-stretches along the South West Coast Path – private parking allows you to explore at your own pace. Adding all-weather appeal, the companionable social space has a paw-warming wood burner, while its gorgeous garden is safely enclosed and includes a private hot tub.
This detached form barn delivers an authentic taste of Cornish life. Follow the garden path from your private parking spot and, once inside, a vaulted, beamed ceiling accentuates the beautiful blend of reclaimed brick and timber in the open-plan social space. At one end, the smart kitchen has all the must-haves of home; share tasty self-catered meals at the dining suite while Rover stays close, then stretch out on a sofa to watch TV as he snoozes by the wood burner. Once Rover is settled in his bed, head down a narrow flight of stairs to find a master king-size bedroom with wooden beams, an ornamental fireplace, a wonderful stained-glass window and easy access to a separate shower room. The second bedroom is a twin with an en-suite bathroom. South-facing, the cottage-style garden is full of greenery and comes with a charcoal BBQ. Enjoy food and drinks on the private terrace; the bubbling hot tub is perfectly positioned for lapping up the stunning country views.
Famous as the home of shanty singers Fisherman’s Friends and TV’s Doc Martin, Port Isaac has a picturesque harbour where fishermen land their catch and, at low tide, there are rock pools to rootle in. Neighbouring Port Gaverne (0.5 miles) has dog-friendly sands too – stroll there via the South West Coast Path, or walk further on to Tintagel (9.5 miles). Head 8.5 miles south instead and Rock sits across the Camel Estuary from foodie-favourite Padstow – take the ferry there or it’s a drive of 16 miles.
