If you want to get away from it all and immerse yourself in the natural beauty of the Lochaber area of the Scottish Highlands, then this delightful log cabin in the hamlet of Glenfinnan is your perfect holiday hideaway. Situated at the northern end of Loch Shiel and to the east of Loch Eil, you and your canine companions will be spoilt for choice when it comes to walkies. The location of the cabin allows guests to enjoy the tranquillity of the countryside, with nothing but the trickling of the River Slatach outside and the occasional eagle cry to disturb you.

Echoing the trees in the surrounding woodland, the wooden finish throughout this charming log cabin brings the outside in. The open-plan lounge/kitchen/diner gives a spacious feeling which is accentuated by the vaulted ceilings. Full-length windows allow guests to appreciate the stunning surroundings while curled up on the sofa or from the kitchen as you rustle up some treats. The three bedrooms (one double, one twin and one single) are all clean and cosy allowing you to rest easy after a busy day exploring. Outside, the wraparound balcony offers views of the beautiful backdrop, including the waterfall and mountains.

The highlight of this property is the stunning landscape enveloping it, which offers endless opportunities for walkies across footpaths and trails with breathtaking scenery and views. Join the Glenfinnan Viaduct Trail which takes you from the Visitor Centre (0.5 miles), and above and below the famous viaduct Or take a stroll to the Glenfinnan Monument which marks the place where the Jacobean rising started many moons ago. To give your legs a rest, you could always head out on a Loch Shiel Cruise or on the Jacobite Train from Fort William to Mallaig. And when you and Fido fancy a challenge, Ben Nevis (23 miles) is waiting.

There are lots of local walks for all ages and plenty to do. I would reccomend a drive out to Arisaig and the silver sands of Morar. I think Id reconsider allowing dogs / pets as the smell of them lingers and hair and mud are difficult to eradicate. Its a beautiful spot and a great quiet base from which to explore around. Getting to Skye was about a three hour drive in beautiful scenery.

A beautiful retreat. The pictures of the landscape on the website really are so close by, and the waterfall is out the front door. We were welcomed so warmly by the owner, made to feel at home and given advice on the area. The Glenfinnan Viaduct is a 10 minute walk (tourist centre) and the railway station/excellent dining cart is about 20 minutes.
