Treasure that moment when you see Rover’s eyes light up at the sight of the beautiful garden at this Leicestershire country house. The four-bedroom retreat at Ashby Folville, 13 miles from central Leicester, boasts ample outdoor space for him to bound about in. Sleeping eight guests, the impressive modern holiday home also benefits from a wood burner for warming soft fur.

Give damp paws a good rub before stepping inside this bright hideaway. Follow furry feet through to the generous kitchen/diner where there is ample space for your hungry hound to mill about as you prepare his dinner and everyone else’s. This stylish, high-specification room has all the equipment and accessories you will need to help you conjure up hearty feasts to sit down to at the table. Take Rover through to the cosy lounge with you, where you can fire up the wood burner on cold days or open the doors to the garden when it is warm. There is a TV in here and in the snug, where Rover might prefer to keep the youngsters company as they play on the games console. Also downstairs are a WC and a utility room. All four bedrooms and the family bathroom are upstairs. There are two king-sizes, plus a twin and a zip-and-link bedroom that can be arranged as a king-size or a twin. The sofa in the snug can also be used as a bed if discussed in advance. Spend sunny days out in the garden watching Rover play. Cook on the BBQ and savour the sunshine as you dine on the patio. There is ample off-road parking.

Watermead Country Park, 7.5 miles away, with lakeside footpaths, makes a great afternoon out for families with dogs. Rover might also enjoy Rutland Water, 18 miles away, where there are off-lead areas.
